Racing Incident Report

TIMBER CITY was withdrawn on 8.4.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SPECTACULAR TIMES (O Doleuze). Before being allowed to race again, TIMBER CITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, DANDY BUNNY bounded in the air and was then slow to begin. SPECTACULAR TIMES was slow to begin and was then steadied away from the heels of AMICABLE which began awkwardly and shifted out. On jumping, SPARKLE and BAUHINIA were crowded for room between THE FACULTY and STAR OF LIHLIN which shifted out abruptly. From a wide barrier, SHANGHAI DELIGHT was allowed to drift back to race in a rearward position. Near the 1300 Metres, BAUHINIA was checked when crowded for room between SPARKLE and WINNING EMPEROR (O Chavez) which at this time shifted in. As the Stewards were satisfied O Chavez endeavoured to straighten his mount prior to the incident, it was decided in the circumstances that he be severely reprimanded and told in future he would be expected to attempt to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. SPECTACULAR TIMES made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly. At the 300 Metres, WINNING EMPEROR, which was beginning to make some ground, was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of STAR OF LIHLIN which at this time was giving ground. Near the 100 Metres, AMICABLE was shifted to the inside of SPARKLE to continue going forward. Throughout the race, THE FACULTY hung in and in the Straight hung in badly and proved difficult to ride. When questioned regarding L'ENFANT being ridden in a forward position today, A Delpech, rider of the horse, said he had been instructed from a wide gate to go forward. Mr D Oughton, trainer of the horse, said the horse has shown itself to be somewhat one-paced over distances longer than 1400 Metres of today's race. He said because of this, the fact the horse had a wide draw and it was dropping back in distance, he instructed A Delpech to be positive from the start. He said he hoped L'ENFANT would be able to obtain a position somewhere about midfield with cover. He said when L'ENFANT was unable to obtain cover the horse continued on and raced further forward than he thought it was able to. SHANGHAI DELIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SHANGHAI DELIGHT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SHANGHAI DELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MR GENKI and MASTER SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
