Racing Incident Report

D Whyte was fined $2,000 for initially weighing out to ride KING OF FIELD without a girth [Rule 89(1)]. SYLLABUS was slow to begin. LEGIONNAIRE began awkwardly and lost ground. After the 2000 Metres, COTTON BALL was steadied when crowded for room between TREASURE FIELD and SNIPER which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SHINING LIGHT which at this time was carried in slightly by DIVINE FEELING. No action was taken. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPER DANA became unbalanced and then raced tight for some distance inside OUT OF MY WAY. Near the 1400 Metres, TREASURE FIELD, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of SHINING LIGHT. For some distance after the 1000 Metres, TREASURE FIELD, which continued to prove difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of DIVINE FEELING which itself was being steadied to allow COTTON BALL to cross. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, DIVINE FEELING, which for some distance had been racing ungenerously and hanging in, was checked when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SHINING LIGHT which at this time was carried in slightly by LEGIONNAIRE (W M Lai). TREASURE FIELD, SUPER DANA and SPECTACULAR HIT, which were following, were checked in consequence. In the circumstances, W M Lai was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. For some distance after the 200 Metres, SPECTACULAR HIT, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when unable to improve between DIVINE FEELING and OUT OF MY WAY. Near the 100 Metres, SPECTACULAR HIT was shifted to the outside of OUT OF MY WAY into clear running. For some distance after the 100 Metres, SYLLABUS had difficulty obtaining clear running inside COTTON BALL. In the Straight, DIVINE FEELING hung in and proved difficult to ride. SUPER DANA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER DANA after the race did not show any significant findings. COTTON BALL and LEGIONNAIRE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 11 April 2005)
COTTON BALL was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being permitted to race again, COTTON BALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
