Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, PARADIS bounded in the air and lost ground. Also when the gates opened, GOODWOOD put its head down and began awkwardly. LUCKY PORT began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. HELLO PRETTY began awkwardly, then hung in and was steadied away from the heels of REGENCY HORSE. Near the 1300 Metres, HELLO PRETTY was steadied away from the heels of REGENCY HORSE. After this, HELLO PRETTY raced ungenerously for a considerable distance and making the turn near the 800 Metres got its head up, commenced to hang out and caused crowding on its outside to ADAIKALI and GREAT IDEA. Making the Home Turn and in the Straight, REGENCY HORSE hung out. F Coetzee (REGENCY HORSE) said because of the weather the horse sweated up badly behind the barriers. He said at no stage of the race did REGENCY HORSE travel comfortably and was under pressure throughout. He said the horse did hang out in the middle stages, however, this is not unusual and he did point out REGENCY HORSE when racing overseas had only raced left-handed. REGENCY HORSE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of REGENCY HORSE after the race did not show any significant findings. G Mossé (LUCKY PORT) said in his opinion the horse's work leading into today's race was only fair. He said the horse was today resuming off a long injury enforced break and despite travelling satisfactorily in the early stages came under pressure at the 600 Metres. He said following the race LUCKY PORT was blowing hard and in his opinion would derive benefit from today's race. LUCKY PORT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY PORT after the race did not show any significant findings. HANDBAG PREMIER and MR COOL were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 25 April 2005)
LUCKY PORT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LUCKY PORT was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a swollen right hock. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY PORT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
