Racing Incident Report

BLUE STITCH was withdrawn on 21.4.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore hoof injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter RED POWER. Before being allowed to race again, BLUE STITCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RAIDER was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (abnormal action behind). Before being allowed to race again, RAIDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPREME RABBIT was slow to begin. SATURN began awkwardly and knuckled. In the early stages, HEALTHY WEALTHY and ROOSEVELT proved difficult to settle. For some distance after straightening, SATURN was held up on the heels of ORIENTAL MAGIC which commenced to give ground. For some distance after the 400 Metres, HEALTHY WEALTHY was held up on the heels of ROOSEVELT which commenced to give ground. After the 400 Metres, SATURN blundered when being checked away from the heels of ORIENTAL MAGIC. Then near the 300 Metres, SATURN again blundered when being checked away from the heels of ORIENTAL MAGIC which shifted out slightly when giving ground. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. Near the 300 Metres, SUPREME RABBIT was shifted out to find clear running. G Mossé (ORIENTAL MAGIC) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position today. He said he did have to make a little use of ORIENTAL MAGIC to race outside the lead and then in the Straight the horse gave ground shortly after the 400 Metres. Mr D A Hayes, trainer of ORIENTAL MAGIC, confirmed the instructions given to G Mossé. He said when the horse last raced it was ridden in a forward position and in his opinion ran its best race in Hong Kong. He said today from a wide barrier it was felt ORIENTAL MAGIC should again be ridden in a forward position as in the past it had not quickened when asked while being ridden quietly. He said in his opinion the poor performance of ORIENTAL MAGIC was not related to it being ridden in a forward position but rather the fact the horse is still an entire. He said he will consult the owner of ORIENTAL MAGIC as to whether consideration ought to be given to the horse being gelded before it next races. The performance of ORIENTAL MAGIC was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ORIENTAL MAGIC will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ORIENTAL MAGIC was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ORIENTAL MAGIC after the race did not show any significant findings. GREEN TREASURE and SUMMERLAND were sent for sampling.
