Racing Incident Report

TATTLETALE was withdrawn on 23.4.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MASTER ABLE (O Chavez). Before being allowed to race again, TATTLETALE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TO SIR WITH LOVE began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall, causing Y T Cheng to momentarily lose the use of his right stirrup. After this, TO SIR WITH LOVE raced wide and without cover. ROMANTIC SYMPHONY was slow to begin. LUCKY GUYS was slow to begin, then for a considerable distance proved very difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. In the early stages when racing three wide and without cover, TOP SCORER proved difficult to settle. When questioned regarding the improved performance of BRAVE COMMANDER, Mr C Fownes, trainer of the horse, said at its most recent start when well beaten BRAVE COMMANDER had not been able to obtain the lead because of the manner in which the race was run. He said at the start prior to that over the same course and distance as today BRAVE COMMANDER had performed well when ridden by Apprentice C K Tong. He said for that reason he again utilised Apprentice Tong today. He said today's performance in his opinion could be explained by BRAVE COMMANDER being able to obtain an uncontested lead and being able to run the race to suit itself. E Saint-Martin (ACCELERATION) said with a blinker with cowl only today the horse travelled satisfactorily in the early stages but hung out badly in the middle stages and particularly making the Home Turn. He said ACCELERATION continued to hang out in the Straight as it had done in the past. He said he believed the poor performance of ACCELERATION was attributable to the manner in which it raced. Before being allowed to race again, ACCELERATION will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ACCELERATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of ACCELERATION after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY GUYS and FIGHT BACK were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, it was noted LUCKY GUYS had blood present at its left nostril. The Veterinary Officer said an endoscopic examination confirmed the horse to have bled. Also after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported FIGHT BACK was making an abnormal breathing noise. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be an early "roarer" and have a significant amount of mucopus in its trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FIGHT BACK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BRAVE COMMANDER and CAPITALAND were sent for sampling.
