Racing Incident Report
On jumping, GRAND CENTRAL was crowded for room between NILOMETER and CLASSA WIN which was carried in by RED POWER. GREAT ACHIEVEMENT got its head up on jumping and lost ground. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, GREAT ACHIEVEMENT and FIGHTING MASCOT were crowded for room inside WEALTHY TREASURE which was carried in by NILOMETER (Apprentice C W Wong) which got its head on the side and shifted in. Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground. Also after passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPER WONGCHOY and FIRST AMONG EQUALS were steadied when crowded for room inside SMACKO (C Munce) which shifted in when not clear. C Munce was severely reprimanded. After the 1200 Metres, SOUNDS BEST bumped the running rail when racing tight inside GREAT ACHIEVEMENT. Shortly after this, GREAT ACHIEVEMENT got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FIRST AMONG EQUALS. This caused some inconvenience to FIGHTING MASCOT which was steadied. After entering the Back Straight, GREAT ACHIEVEMENT got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly when being steadied away from the heels of FIRST AMONG EQUALS. Near the 400 Metres, CLASSA WIN was steadied away from the heels of FIGHTING MASCOT which at this time was carried wider by GREAT ACHIEVEMENT which became unbalanced when close to the heels of FIRST AMONG EQUALS. Near the 200 Metres, WEALTHY TREASURE became unbalanced and lost ground after being bumped by SOUNDS BEST (B Prebble). B Prebble was advised to exercise care. Shortly after this incident, WEALTHY TREASURE blundered and then gave ground quickly. Before being allowed to race again, WEALTHY TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view inside the final 50 Metres an incident had occurred which cast doubt on whether NILOMETER should be declared the winner of the race. S Dye, the rider of RED POWER, second placegetter, also viewed the official videos of the race to consider if he had grounds to lodge a protest/objection against NILOMETER being declared the winner. The evidence disclosed that inside the final 50 Metres NILOMETER, which was hanging in, shifted ground and brushed RED POWER. The Stewards considered this was not an appropriate set of circumstances to exercise their powers under Rule 123. In addition, S Dye did not believe he had sufficient grounds to lodge a protest/objection against NILOMETER. Therefore weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Throughout the race, NILOMETER travelled wide and without cover. SUNBELL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUNBELL after the race did not show any significant findings. SOUNDS BEST, NILOMETER and RED POWER were sent for sampling.
