Racing Incident Report
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, HAPPY CRUSADER went amiss and was eased out of the race. HAPPY CRUSADER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HAPPY CRUSADER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right hind leg. Before being permitted to race again, HAPPY CRUSADER must perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after passing the winning post on the first occasion, QUEST FOR LOVE became unbalanced and dipped when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUPER HONEY which shifted in. Near the 1500 Metres, GOOD VIEW SUCCESS was steadied when awkwardly placed between PRESENT TREASURE and SAVUTE which was racing tight inside HAPPY CRUSADER. At the 1300 Metres, PACKING ANGEL was checked when awkwardly placed inside the heels of CIRCULAR MACHINE which at this time was carried in slightly by QUEST FOR LOVE (E Saint-Martin). In the circumstances, E Saint-Martin was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Making the Home Turn, PACKING ANGEL was held up and unable to obtain clear running. On straightening, GALLANT FALCON blundered badly after striking the heels of PRESENT TREASURE which was giving ground quickly. No action was taken. At the 200 Metres, SUPER HONEY was bumped by CIRCULAR MACHINE which shifted out to obtain clear running. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they considered whether CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN, second placegetter, had caused interference to PACKING ANGEL, third placegetter, over the concluding stages. After viewing the available videos, the Stewards formed the opinion that near the 200 Metres PACKING ANGEL was inconvenienced when establishing running between GALLANT KNIGHT and CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN where there was initially insufficient room and further just prior to the winning post PACKING ANGEL was bumped by CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN which at this time was carried in by CIRCULAR MACHINE. In the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate to conduct a formal protest/objection hearing and weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. D Nikolic (PRESENT TREASURE) explained approaching the winning post on the first occasion, he steadied away from the heels of QUEST FOR LOVE. He said when he did this PRESENT TREASURE commenced to hang out, proved difficult for him to control and shifted wider on the track. He said making the first turn PRESENT TREASURE continued to hang out badly and continued to do so until after the 700 Metres. He said despite his efforts he was not able to have PRESENT TREASURE shift back to race immediately outside the field. The performance of PRESENT TREASURE was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, PRESENT TREASURE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PRESENT TREASURE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PRESENT TREASURE after the race did not show any significant findings. CIRCULAR MACHINE and CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN were sent for sampling.
