Racing Incident Report

JOYFUL UNION was slow to begin. Making the first turn, FORTUNE GOLD was wide and without cover and was then shifted back to a position with cover behind PACIFIC ALLIANCE. For a considerable distance after straightening, HAPPY CONTENDER was held up and unable to improve between FORTUNE GOLD and DANSOLDE. At the 400 Metres, SUNDAY DELIGHT was shifted to the outside of LAZY BUDDIES to obtain clear running, then near the 300 Metres was steadied when disappointed for running between LAZY BUDDIES and SPEED OF LIGHT which at this time shifted to the inside of ELEPHANT DANCE into clear running. After the 400 Metres, SPEED OF LIGHT was held up and unable to improve between ELEPHANT DANCE and PACIFIC ALLIANCE. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, FORTUNE GOLD and CHALLENGER raced tight. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered whether DURABLE had had an unfair start. The evidence disclosed that prior to the start being effected, PACIFIC ALLIANCE became fractious and reared. As a result of this, DURABLE also became fractious and reared, got its head over a bar in the top of the stalls, then when being assisted by an attendant came down with its head over the adjoining partition to the stall on its outside. In the opinion of the Stewards, as DURABLE had its head over a bar in the top of the stalls prior to the start being effected, it had had an unfair start and as such the horse was declared a non-runner [Rule 12(19)]. Before being allowed to race again, DURABLE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. HAPPY CONTENDER and DANSOLDE were sent for sampling.
