Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, E Saint-Martin, the rider of MIGHTY HUGO, expressed concern over the horse's action. MIGHTY HUGO was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was stiff in front and therefore was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MIGHTY HUGO. Before being allowed to race again, MIGHTY HUGO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COSMO SUCCESS was slow to begin. GOOD BA BA, which was fractious in its stall as the gates opened, put its head down and was slow to begin. After this, GOOD BA BA was ridden along to make up ground, travelled wide and without cover and after the 1400 Metres went forward to cross to race outside the leader. Near the 1200 Metres, GREENESSY was checked to avoid the heels of COURAGEOUSHEART (Apprentice H W Lai) which shifted in after initially having been carried in by GOOD BA BA (C Soumillon). In the circumstances, no action was taken, however, C Soumillon and Apprentice Lai were advised to exercise greater care. FUJI SUNRISE, which was following GREENESSY, was checked in consequence and shifted out. On straightening, DR WELL was hampered and carried wider by GOOD BA BA which shifted out. Close to the line, GOOD BA BA became unbalanced when awkwardly placed between DR WELL and RIVER ESPERANTO which at this time got its head on the side and shifted out. Because of this, GOOD BA BA was not ridden out to the end of the race. B Prebble (DYNAMIC FUN) said he had been instructed to lead and if possible allow the horse to roll along from the 800 Metres. He said in the past DYNAMIC FUN had shown itself to have a high cruising speed and it is in the opinion of the stable that the horse is best suited not being saved for a sprint home. He said running down the Back Straight DYNAMIC FUN commenced to hang out and because of this he changed the whip into his left hand. He said at the 800 Metres he allowed the horse to go forward as instructed in an endeavour to ensure the race was truly run. He said however in the Straight DYNAMIC FUN kept on only to about the 300 Metres and then gave ground. GOOD BA BA, FUJI SUNRISE and GREENESSY were sent for sampling.
