Racing Incident Report

CYPRESS HILL was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore foot). Before being allowed to race again, CYPRESS HILL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, RIGHT CHOICE bounded in the air and then on landing stumbled MAGIC TOUCH was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, FRIENDSHIP failed to muster pace. After this, FRIENDSHIP travelled wide and without cover until after the 1200 Metres, then making the Home Turn hung out. Making the first turn, THUNDER MAN shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of AMPLE GAINS. This caused some inconvenience to RIGHT CHOICE. Making the turns, FREEBIRD hung out. C Brown (AQUA-TREASURE) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that having raced tight outside GALLANT KNIGHT for some distance approaching the 700 Metres, he did near the 700 Metres permit his mount to shift in, causing crowding on his inside to GALLANT KNIGHT which as a consequence made contact with the hindquarters of SUGAR AND SON, causing that horse to strike the running rail, then shift out which caused GALLANT KNIGHT to be carried out onto the heels of AQUA-TREASURE, blunder and almost fall. ARROGANCE and WINNING SUNSHINE which were following SUGAR AND SON were checked severely and CALIFORNIA HEART and RIGHT CHOICE which were following GALLANT KNIGHT were also checked severely and LANCETTIER was steadied and shifted out. C Brown was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 20 March 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 12 March 2006. In addition, C Brown was fined $50,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. After the 600 Metres, ARROGANCE was unable to improve when racing behind GALLANT KNIGHT. After the 100 Metres, FREEBIRD was struck over the nose by the whip of C Brown. When questioned, S Sanders (LANCETTIER) said he had hoped to ride the horse similar to the manner in which it was ridden recently. He said however today because of the way the race was run in the early stages, he was held wide by RIGHT CHOICE and as a consequence got further back than he had hoped. He said after this LANCETTIER continued to travel wide in the run, however, did have cover, then in the Straight failed to finish the race off. LANCETTIER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LANCETTIER after the race did not show any significant findings. AMPLE GAINS and AQUA-TREASURE were sent for sampling.
