Racing Incident Report

KAISER'S CHOIX began awkwardly. KING OF SHAVER, which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start when CARRY GOOD NEWS shifted out after being bumped by BRAVE KNIGHT. RED WINE HONEY, which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start when crowded for room between TOP TOP LIGHT and HURRICANE WAY which shifted out. With the intention of being ridden quietly from the outside barrier, GOLDEN WIN was taken back across behind runners shortly after the start. In the early part of the Straight, KAISER'S CHOIX was unable to obtain clear running. Also in the early part of the Straight, RED WINE HONEY was obliged to shift out in order to obtain clear running. Approaching the 300 Metres, SERIOUS PLAY was briefly held up on the heels of KAISER'S CHOIX. Near the 300 Metres, KING OF SHAVER was steadied when unable to shift to the outside of the heels of JOYFUL WORLD which was tiring. After this, KING OF SHAVER raced tight between JOYFUL WORLD which shifted out when continuing to weaken and GOLDEN WIN which was taken in slightly by CROWNED GEM. As a result of this, KING OF SHAVER did not obtain clear running until passing the 200 Metres. Near the 100 Metres, SERIOUS PLAY was steadied when crowded for room between EXPLORATION and KAISER'S CHOIX which shifted in under pressure. As a result of this, SERIOUS PLAY was unable to be ridden out until the concluding stages. When questioned, Apprentice H W Lai said the intention had been to lead on JOYFUL WORLD as is usual. He said the horse was slow to begin and he then allowed the horse to improve towards the lead. He said after not beginning cleanly he tried to obtain cover behind PEARL OF INDIA, however, JOYFUL WORLD commenced to over-race. He said he was then reluctant to ride forward to clear PEARL OF INDIA as he believed he would have had to make too much use of JOYFUL WORLD, he therefore was obliged to race three wide and without cover throughout the race. JOYFUL WORLD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, JOYFUL WORLD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. CARRY GOOD NEWS and RED WINE HONEY were sent for sampling.
