Racing Incident Report
LIGHT OF JOY began awkwardly and then was crowded for room between KINDACROSS which shifted out slightly and DR GREEN which was taken in by BULB KING. For some distance between the 1000 Metres and the 800 Metres, LIGHT OF JOY got its head up when racing keenly and close to the heels of KINDACROSS. DR GREEN made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly. Passing the 800 Metres, CONGRATS was steadied when crowded for room between WIN AGAIN and DOWN THE WICKET, both of which shifted ground. Approaching the 200 Metres, DOWN THE WICKET was checked off the heels of TRAVEL CONSULTANT which shifted in slightly while weakening. In the circumstances, no action was taken. When questioned, O Doleuze (CONGRATS) said he was instructed from barrier 10 to take the horse in behind runners as it was felt the horse would not show sufficient pace and would be left racing wide throughout. He said approaching the first turn he attempted to obtain a run between WIN AGAIN and DOWN THE WICKET, however, CONGRATS was reluctant to put itself into what was a tight run. He added rounding the Home Turn he was awkwardly placed close to the heels of firstly WIN AGAIN and then GO JOHNNY GO as he attempted to shift to the outside of those horses and when placed under pressure in the Straight CONGRATS whilst finishing the race off fairly did not respond to his riding as he had hoped. LUCKY BABY and CHATER POWER were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was performed on DR GREEN at the request of Trainer C Fownes. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DR GREEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
