Racing Incident Report
HOLD HANDS was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetance). Before being allowed to race again, HOLD HANDS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. VINTAGE GOLD and CHATER DE LAGO were slow to begin. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SIXTY SECONDS got its head up when being steadied while awkwardly placed between VINTAGE GOLD and TIRAMISU which shifted in. Approaching the 1200 Metres, DRAGON STRIDE was bumped by BIG KAHUNA which shifted out when awkwardly placed outside the heels of SPEEDING MOLLY. Consideration was given to a protest/objection lodged by Apprentice K L Chui (SPEEDING MOLLY), 4th placegetter, against SIXTY SECONDS ridden by O Doleuze being declared the 2nd placegetter alleging interference in the Home Straight. The evidence disclosed that at about the 250 Metres SPEEDING MOLLY was checked when disappointed for running between SIXTY SECONDS which shifted in and VINTAGE GOLD which shifted out. Further near the 100 Metres SPEEDING MOLLY was steadied away from the heels of SIXTY SECONDS which at this time shifted in when not properly clear. The protest/objection was overruled as the Stewards considered the incident at the 250 Metres was not wholly attributable to SIXTY SECONDS and further having in mind the manner in which SPEEDING MOLLY was closing the race off when inconvenienced near the 100 Metres, they did not believe SPEEDING MOLLY would have finished in front of SIXTY SECONDS. Accordingly weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. At a subsequent inquiry, O Doleuze was reprimanded for shifting in when not properly clear of SPEEDING MOLLY near the 100 Metres. In the Straight, BIG KAHUNA hung in. Throughout the race, NATURAL FATCHOY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of NATURAL FATCHOY was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, NATURAL FATCHOY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Apprentice H W Lai (THUNDER STORM) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse which was stepping up in distance tonight. He said THUNDER STORM travelled wide in the early stages, however, after entering the Back Straight was able to obtain cover in a three wide position. He said when under pressure at the 500 Metres THUNDER STORM failed to respond to his riding. He did say THUNDER STORM felt a little awkward in its action. The performance of THUNDER STORM was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, THUNDER STORM will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. W M Lai (DRAGON STRIDE) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in midfield. He said shortly after the start it became apparent to him that should he maintain a midfield position, he would be obliged to race wide and without cover. He said because of this he elected to steady in an endeavour to obtain a position behind TIRAMISU. He said however when he did this, he consequently lost ground and travelled further back than anticipated. SPEEDING MOLLY, PERSEVERANCE and SIXTY SECONDS were sent for sampling.
