Racing Incident Report

GLOBAL WIN was slow to begin and then failed to muster speed. MEGABUCKS began awkwardly. WELL NOTED shifted out at the start, resulting in DARPANA being taken out onto RAY’S FAVOURITE. KINGSTON MARBLE stumbled at the start. RAY’S FAVOURITE hung out making the turn near the 700 Metres. Near the 600 Metres, GLOBAL WIN lost ground when reluctant to maintain its position inside KEEP GOING. Throughout the race, LINKED WIN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of INDUSTRIAL MARVEL, W C Marwing stated that he had been instructed that if the horse began well and he was able to take up a leading position without having to make too much use of it, he should do so,. He said if INDUSTRIAL MARVEL had to be used up to obtain a forward position in what was anticipated to be a fast run race, he should obtain a position with cover. He said although INDUSTRIAL MARVEL began well, MACHO EXPRESSO held its position to his inside. He said he also noticed that a number of runners positioned further to the inside were being ridden into forward positions, therefore he formed the opinion that he would have had to make too much use of INDUSTRIAL MARVEL to obtain a forward position as instructed. He said rather than remain racing wide, he elected to obtain a position with cover, however this was behind midfield. He said when ridden in this fashion, INDUSTRIAL MARVEL finished off the race fairly. When questioned regarding his riding of KEEP GOING, J Lloyd stated that he had been instructed to take the horse across behind runners and obtain a position near the rear of the field. He said he had ridden KEEP GOING in a lot of its track work as well as riding it in a barrier trial on 8 June 2010 when the horse had closed off well after being ridden quietly at the rear. He said in its track work, KEEP GOING, after being transferred to Mr C W Chang’s stable, had worked too keenly and had been very difficult to settle. He added for this reason both himself and Mr Chang had gone to lengths to ensure that the horse was able to be more relaxed. He said KEEP GOING, which had bled at its most recent start on 31 January 2010, had raced in blinkers prior to being transferred to Mr Chang’s stable and it had been decided to removed the blinkers from the gear of KEEP GOING to help the horse to settle. He said in accordance with his instructions, he restrained KEEP GOING in the early stages even though it began well in an endeavour to ensure that it did not over-race. He said the tempo of the race in the early stages was quite quick and after obtaining a position towards the rear of the field, KEEP GOING came off the bit despite him niggling it along and because of this KEEP GOING became somewhat detached from the rest of the field. He said he commenced riding KEEP GOING along making the first turn in an endeavour to have it make up lost ground, the horse responded to his riding and when placed under pressure rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight finished off the race well albeit he was obliged to steady KEEP GOING over the concluding stages when the horse was awkwardly placed close to the heels of NATURAL FLAME. He said that, in his opinion, the horse resented the kickback in the early and middle stages and this had resulted in it getting out of its ground. Mr Chang confirmed that the instructions had been to ensure that KEEP GOING did not over-race and accordingly he anticipated that the horse would settle towards the rear of the field. He said after looking at the videos of the horse’s previous runs, he formed the view that KEEP GOING has not been able to close off its races when ridden for speed and travelling too strongly. He said for this reason and the fact that the horse had bled at its last start, he had endeavoured to have it switch off in its track work and in its barrier trial. He said in a further endeavour to assist KEEP GOING to settle and race more kindly, he removed the blinkers from the horse’s gear today. Mr Chang was advised that his evidence would be reported. J Lloyd was advised that he should have done more than he did on this occasion to maintain a position racing closer to horses in front and that in future he should not leave his mounts with too much to do. A veterinary inspection of DARPANA after the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being permitted to race again, DARPANA will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DARPANA, WELL NOTED and KINGSTON MARBLE were sent for sampling.
