Racing Incident Report
METRO RIDER began awkwardly and shifted in, hampering EVER KING. From outside barriers, GALLANT GALLOP and BRAVO HORSE were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, NICKU got its head up when being steadied. Near the 1100 Metres, NICKU again got its head up when racing close to the heels of AIPODER IMAGE. Approaching the 900 Metres, NICKU and METRO RIDER were very awkwardly placed close to the heels of AIPODER IMAGE (Apprentice T H So) and ALWAYS AHEAD (M Chadwick) which at this time steadied the tempo. ROCKET AND GOLD and EVER KING, which were following NICKU, were hampered, and EPEE DE HUA, which was following METRO RIDER, was hampered and shifted out in consequence. When METRO RIDER was checked away from the heels of ALWAYS AHEAD, it shifted out, resulting in MASTER DRAGON being taken wider. Apprentice So and M Chadwick were reprimanded and advised against the practice of unduly steadying the pace. Passing the 900 Metres, EVER KING was checked away from the heels of METRO RIDER which continued to get its head up when being checked away from the heels of ALWAYS AHEAD and in doing so shifted out, resulting in AMAZING FORTUNE being taken wider. After this, ALWAYS AHEAD commenced to give ground, resulting in METRO RIDER being taken back through the field and near the 700 Metres striking the heels of ALWAYS AHEAD and blundering. BRAVO HORSE, which was following, was checked in consequence. After this, METRO RIDER continued to be taken back through the field by ALWAYS AHEAD. The performance of ALWAYS AHEAD, which commenced to give ground passing the 700 Metres, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ALWAYS AHEAD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. METRO RIDER was steadied away from the heels of SAMMY`S FORTUNE rounding the Home Turn. Shortly after straightening, ROCKET AND GOLD was checked when disappointed for running between NICKU and MASTER DRAGON which shifted in. ROCKET AND GOLD then had difficulty obtaining clear running until after the 200 Metres at which time the horse was struck across the nose by the whip of Apprentice K C Leung (MASTER DRAGON). Whilst the Stewards considered the riding of G Mossé (NICKU) over the concluding stages did not affect the horse`s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels where circumstances permit. AMAZING FORTUNE and ROCKET AND GOLD were sent for sampling.

The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that ALWAYS AHEAD, which commenced to give ground passing the 700 Metres, was struck into its left hind leg and was lame in the same leg on the morning after racing. As previously advised, ALWAYS AHEAD will have to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
