Racing Incident Report
Whilst in the saddling stalls, IRON EAGLE had its right front plate refitted. IRON EAGLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. The Veterinary Officer reported that KING OF SCOTS was found to have a small cut to its right front fetlock prior to the race. KING OF SCOTS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. LIBERATOR began very awkwardly and lost ground at the start. After this, LIBERATOR was ridden along to take up a forward position. Near the 1400 Metres, DIEGO shifted out, resulting in JAMESINA being taken out onto FEARLESS which became unbalanced. Near the 1100 Metres, ZAIDAN and VICTOR DELIGHT raced tight inside KING OF SCOTS (Apprentice C Y Ho) which shifted in. Apprentice Ho was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves sufficient room for runners to his inside in future. As Apprentice Ho was shifting out to relieve the tightening to VICTOR DELIGHT and ZAIDAN, KING OF SCOTS became awkwardly placed close to the heels of VITALITY EXPRESS which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LIBERATOR (M Chadwick) which at this time was being steadied. In this incident, KING OF SCOTS struck the heels of VITALITY EXPRESS, causing that horse to get its head up and race fiercely. After this, VITALITY EXPRESS shifted in when continuing to over-race, resulting in VICTOR DELIGHT being severely checked and taken in across the rightful running of ZAIDAN which was also severely checked. CARTHAGE, which was following ZAIDAN, was checked in consequence and shifted out, resulting in MAJESTIC FALCON and DIEGO also being severely checked in consequence. OUTDOOR PEGASUS, which was following VICTOR DELIGHT, was steadied in consequence as was HOT SHOT which was shifted out to avoid the heels of that horse. After this, HOT SHOT travelled wide and without cover. After considering the totality of the circumstances of this incident, the Stewards severely reprimanded M Chadwick and advised him that whilst the racing manners of VITALITY EXPRESS and the fact that VICTOR DELIGHT and ZAIDAN had previously been racing in restricted room inside KING OF SCOTS had a bearing on the incident, nonetheless he must in future ensure that he does not ease the tempo on his mounts to such a degree that runners positioned behind his mounts are placed in awkward positions. Near the 800 Metres, CARTHAGE was checked when crowded for room between ZAIDAN and OUTDOOR PEGASUS which was taken in slightly by KING OF SCOTS. Approaching the 200 Metres, CARTHAGE was steadied when crowded for room between KING OF SCOTS and ZAIDAN which got its head on the side and shifted out away from JAMESINA which itself was shifting ground when improving. Over the concluding stages, JAMESINA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of OUTDOOR PEGASUS. Because of this, JAMESINA was not ridden out to the end of the race as it otherwise would be. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that passing the 600 Metres LIBERATOR commenced to come under pressure and lay out. He said he attempted to correct LIBERATOR by applying pressure to the right rein on a number of occasions to have it race directly to the outside of IRON EAGLE. He said however that LIBERATOR continued to lay out and for this reason PURE CHAMPION was able to improve its position between LIBERATOR and IRON EAGLE. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ZAIDAN, D Beadman stated that his mount became very worked up prior to the race and was more difficult to load than it had been at its previous starts in Hong Kong. He said after being severely checked near the 1100 Metres, ZAIDAN then travelled only fairly after this. He said in the Straight ZAIDAN got its head on the side and lay out and weakened out of the race noticeably over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of ZAIDAN after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that LIBERATOR had sustained an abrasion to the outer left hind cannon and that VITALITY EXPRESS had sustained a wound to the left hind cannon. A veterinary inspection of VICTOR DELIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. PURE CHAMPION and OUTDOOR PEGASUS were sent for sampling.
