Racing Incident Report

DOUBLE VALENTINE was withdrawn on 8.5.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen left front neck) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PRINCE HARMONY (J Moreira). Before being allowed to race again, DOUBLE VALENTINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
TRIUMPHANT JEWEL was slow to begin.
CALIFORNIA ELITE began awkwardly.
PRINCE HARMONY and MR PICASSO bumped at the start.
Shortly after the start, NAVAS shifted out and bumped STARLIGHT, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
From wide barriers, NAVAS, STARLIGHT, MR PICASSO and BIG FORTUNE were all steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Passing the 900 Metres, HARRIER JET commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was checked away from the heels of DREAM COME TRUE which was being steadied to allow ORIONIDS to cross.
Approaching the 600 Metres, HARRIER JET was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DREAM COME TRUE. CALIFORNIA ELITE and STARLIGHT, which were following, were hampered in consequence. A short distance later, DREAM COME TRUE was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside ENCORE BOY which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. This resulted in HARRIER JET, CALIFORNIA ELITE and STARLIGHT all being checked.
Rounding the Home Turn, HARRIER JET was checked away from the heels of DREAM COME TRUE.
Over the concluding stages, ENCORE BOY raced tight inside HARRIER JET.
Throughout the race, ROMAN ODYSSEY travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of DREAM COME TRUE and MR PICASSO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ORIONIDS and HARRIER JET were sent for sampling.
