Racing Incident Report
LET’S COME BACK was withdrawn on 25.10.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter IRISH VEGA (U Rispoli). Before being allowed to race again, LET’S COME BACK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
IRISH VEGA began awkwardly, shifted in at the start and bumped HIDDEN SPIRIT which became unbalanced.
JOYFUL CONTENDER shifted in shortly after the start and bumped MI BLANCO.
From wide barriers, MR MAGELLAN and MASTER BERNINI were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, IRISH VEGA and MI BLANCO raced tight between HIDDEN SPIRIT and JOYFUL CONTENDER.
Making the turn after the 1400 Metres, REEVE’S MUNTJAC and KEEP WINNING were left racing very wide and after entering the Back Straight were allowed to improve their position, however, after the 900 Metres KEEP WINNING was left racing wide and without cover as REEVE’S MUNTJAC improved its position to race outside the lead.
After the 600 Metres, HIDDEN SPIRIT and LITTLE FANTASY raced tight. HIDDEN SPIRIT was then momentarily awkwardly placed behind KEEP WINNING near the 550 Metres.
Also after the 600 Metres, WHAMPOA STAR raced close to the heels of VICTORY MARCH as that horse came under pressure.
Passing the 100 Metres, C Schofield (MR MAGELLAN) dropped his left rein. As C Schofield was regathering the left rein, MR MAGELLAN shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages and raced tight outside CHATER THUNDER.
The performance of JOYFUL CONTENDER and KEEP WINNING, both of which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, JOYFUL CONTENDER and KEEP WINNING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of HIDDEN SPIRIT, M Chadwick stated that HIDDEN SPIRIT raced towards the rear of the field as it had done in its recent start when successful. He said HIDDEN SPIRIT did not travel well and after attempting to shift the horse to the outside of KEEP WINNING approaching the 500 Metres, HIDDEN SPIRIT came off the bridle when LITTLE FANTASY held its position to his outside. He said after this he rode HIDDEN SPIRIT along, however, the horse did not make up ground and was disappointing. He added whilst he believed that the track appeared to be favouring horses that were on pace, HIDDEN SPIRIT was not able to improve its position rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight when horses such as MASTER BERNINI and MR MAGELLAN were improving. Mr P O’Sullivan, the trainer of HIDDEN SPIRIT, stated that the horse had done well since its first up success this season on a "Wet Slow” track. He said the horse had been successful at its last two starts in Class 5 and the only reason he could offer for the horse’s disappointing performance today was that HIDDEN SPIRIT was not able to make any ground on today’s track which appeared in the early stages of the programme to be favouring horses which were ridden in a prominent position. A veterinary inspection of HIDDEN SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HIDDEN SPIRIT, winner of its two most recent starts, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HIDDEN SPIRIT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of MI BLANCO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
REGENCY GEM, CHATER THUNDER and WINNING CIRCLE were sent for sampling.
<28/10/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>MI BLANCO, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. MI BLANCO was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P O’Sullivan this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MI BLANCO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
