Racing Incident Report
STARLIGHT and SPARKLING STAR bumped on jumping.
THIS IS CHARISMA was steadied shortly after the start when crowded for room inside THE ABRAXAS (H N Wong) which shifted in when being ridden along. H N Wong was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Shortly after the start, WINNING FEELING, which was being steadied to obtain cover from the outside barrier, was bumped by MOMENTUM HAPPY which shifted out.
Near the 1150 Metres, SPARKLING STAR was crowded for room between STARLIGHT which was racing tight outside the hindquarters of SIMPLY FLUKE and DESTINE JEWELLERY which shifted in away from HARRIER JET after being brushed by that horse. In this incident, SPARKLING STAR made contact with the hindquarters of STARLIGHT which continued to race tight outside SIMPLY FLUKE. SPARKLING STAR then raced in restricted room between STARLIGHT and DESTINE JEWELLERY until approaching the 1100 Metres at which stage SPARKLING STAR bumped the hindquarters of DESTINE JEWELLERY, causing that horse to become unbalanced and shift in marginally when racing tight inside HARRIER JET. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no carelessness exhibited by any rider in this incident, no further action was taken.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, ALLOY STAR was bumped by WINNING FEELING which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. ALLOY STAR, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley, then hung out across the heels of WINNING FEELING making the turn near the 1000 Metres, was severely checked and clipped the heels of WINNING FEELING which resulted in ALLOY STAR losing a considerable amount of ground.
After the 800 Metres, THIS IS CHARISMA was shifted out away from the heels of BULLISH BROTHER which shifted out. After this, BULLISH BROTHER travelled wide and without cover.
SIMPLY FLUKE made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly.
After the 200 Metres, STARLIGHT raced tight outside the heels of BULLISH BROTHER.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that he was instructed to ride THIS IS CHARISMA in about a midfield position if possible. He said after being hampered on jumping, THIS IS CHARISMA was slightly further back in the field in the early stages than he anticipated. He said he elected to then ride his mount forward in the hope that THIS IS CHARISMA would be able to clear DESTINE JEWELLERY which was being ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages. He said due to the manner in which DESTINE JEWELLERY was not responding despite being ridden along, he felt that there may be an opportunity for THIS IS CHARISMA to improve forward of DESTINE JEWELLERY so as to obtain a midfield position as instructed. He said as he improved around DESTINE JEWELLERY, that horse continued to be ridden along to maintain its position and this resulted in THIS IS CHARISMA racing very wide making the turn after the 1000 Metres. He added after being left racing four wide and without cover near the 750 Metres, he then rode his mount along approaching the 600 Metres in an attempt to clear BULLISH BROTHER and obtain a position closer to the rail, however, THIS IS CHARISMA did not pick up and as a consequence continued to race wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. J Moreira was advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that he elected to position THIS IS CHARISMA in midfield as instructed, nonetheless he must ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner that they do not cover unnecessary ground wherever appropriate circumstances exist. A veterinary inspection of THIS IS CHARISMA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of MOMENTUM HAPPY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The Stewards will question K C Leung (MOMENTUM HAPPY) regarding the disappointing performance of the horse prior to the Sha Tin Racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 13 September 2020.
A veterinary inspection of BULLISH BROTHER and ALLOY STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HARMONY N HOME and SIMPLY FLUKE were sent for sampling.
<13/9/2020 9 September 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 4 (14)>The Stewards today questioned K C Leung, the rider of MOMENTUM HAPPY, regarding the disappointing performance of that horse. K C Leung stated that, unlike when the horse was successful for him on 8 July 2020, he had to make some use of MOMENTUM HAPPY in the early stages to take up a forward position. He said he was able to shift across to clear BULLISH BROTHER after the 800 Metres to race outside the lead and MOMENTUM HAPPY then travelled satisfactorily. He said the horse came off the bridle passing the 500 Metres and he had to ride it vigorously from the 400 Metres as MOMENTUM HAPPY was not responding to his riding. He added, despite being fully tested in the early part of the Straight, MOMENTUM HAPPY commenced to give ground after racing outside the eventual winner HARMONY N HOME and then was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race.
