Racing Incident Report
On arrival at the Start, it was noted that WAH MAY LUCK had blood in the mouth. WAH MAY LUCK was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race.
GREAT TIMES was slow to begin and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
WONDER YEARS and FORTUNE PATROL both began only fairly and then were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages.
Passing the 1900 Metres, WEALTHY EMPLOYEE momentarily raced tight inside ALL BEST FRIENDS and then passing the 1700 Metres raced close to the heels of GRAND POWER.
WAH MAY LUCK lost its left front plate in the early stages.
JOLLY FOREVER lost its left hind plate at the 950 Metres.
Passing the 800 Metres, GRAND POWER and JOLLY FOREVER brushed when racing tight inside SKY GEM which lay in before being directed out to relieve the crowding.
Approaching the 200 Metres, FORTUNE PATROL shifted out and bumped FORTUNE TRIPLE. FORTUNE PATROL then raced tight for a short distance between FORTUNE TRIPLE and WAH MAY LUCK which was giving ground.
The performance of ALL BEST FRIENDS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ALL BEST FRIENDS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GRAND POWER lost its left front plate after the race.
After the race, A Badel stated that given the manner in which WAH MAY LUCK failed to finish the race off tonight, he was of the opinion that the horse may be better suited by being ridden with cover. He said when he had ridden the horse previously, he was of the view that it finished its race off better than it did in tonight’s race. A veterinary inspection of WAH MAY LUCK immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
Also after the race, J Moreira was not able to offer an explanation for the disappointing performance of GRAND POWER. He said whilst he had to make some use of the horse in the early stages to obtain a forward position, this did not explain the manner in which GRAND POWER came under heavy pressure passing the 900 Metres and then gave ground noticeably from the 600 Metres. A veterinary inspection of GRAND POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GRAND POWER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GRAND POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE PATROL and WEALTHY EMPLOYEE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SKY GEM and JOLLY FOREVER were sent for sampling.
