4 9 GREAT SPIRIT (J155) Approaching the 1000 Metres was steadied to avoid EMBLAZON (C L Chau) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. C L Chau was reprimanded. Near the 900 Metres was contacted heavily on the hindquarters by MALPENSA, resulting in GREAT SPIRIT becoming unbalanced.
5 12 RUBY SAILING (H347) Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres.
6 8 KA YING RESILIENCE (J439) A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
7 5 CALL ME SUCCESS (K462) Near the 900 Metres was hampered and taken wider. Near the 250 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of COPARTNER FLEET to obtain clear running.
8 11 ABSOLUTE HONOUR (K260) No report.
9 10 HAPPY SHOOTER (J427) Bounded on jumping and lost ground. Near the 900 Metres became badly unbalanced and lost ground when being severely checked to avoid MALPENSA when that runner gave ground quickly and shifted out. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
10 7 TORVEIN (K375) Near the 900 Metres was steadied and shifted out to avoid MALPENSA.
11 3 COPARTNER FLEET (K342) Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
12 6 MALPENSA (K545) When questioned Z Purton stated that his mount was fractious in the starting gates and as a consequence jumped only fairly. He said throughout the early stages MALPENSA was reluctant to hold its position to the inside of other runners and approaching the first turn near the 900 Metres he was obliged to severely check his mount when MALPENSA shifted out when reluctant to hold its position to the inside of GREAT SPIRIT which shifted in slightly. He added that as a consequence MALPENSA lost significant ground and did not finish the race off thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The racing manners of MALPENSA were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MALPENSA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend in Hong Kong from an inside barrier. Noted to have lost its left front plate after the race.
