2 6 CAPABEL (CD195) D Dunn -- Broke with them. Raced last throughout. At least 8Ls back on fence at 1000 M. Shifted wide on straightening. Came with strong run. Made good ground outside but failed to match strides with winner closing stages.
3 2 SPEED OF LIGHT (CC333) H W Lai TT Average away. Midfield or better. 2 wide with cover at 800 M. Travelled well on the bend. Shifted 5 wide on straightening. Kept on giving inside 300 M. Outpaced by top pair inside final 100 M. Worked hard to hold on to 3rd.
4 5 WAVY PEAK (CD083) H K Yim -- Never far off. Settled in prime position on rail within 3Ls off pace. Niggled along to stay 1L back at 600 M. Shifted 3 wide after straightening. Took lead at 300 M. Still in front final 100 M. Fought hard but faded.
5 7 SPECTACULAR TIMES (CD059) F Coetzee B/TT- Slow to begin. Settled 3rd last on fence. 7Ls behind lead at 800 M. Similar turning in. Responded nicely after straightening. Made good ground between runners final 300 M. Nearest at finish.
6 8 NEW TAMAR (CE156) G Mosse B- Outpaced early. 2 wide with cover, rearward with pressure. Finally picked up at 600 M but was forced widest turning in. Sprinted to make up good ground on the outside. Showed late impression but not enough for the rivals.
7 3 MAVERICK (CE199) B Prebble TT Broke well. Settled behind midfield on rail. 5Ls off speed at 800 M. Saved ground along the fence rounding home. 8th entering straight searching for daylight early straight. Made some impression once in clear final 200 M.
8 13 TO SIR WITH LOVE (CE054) M W Leung V Good early speed to stalk leader early. Always within half length of lead in a 2 wide spot. Gained lead at 600 M. Still in front at 300 M. Lacked dash to sprint with them. Same paced till the line.
9 11 MILLENNIUM DAWN (BV168) D Whyte B Jumped with the field. Kept 2 wide in the rear section at least 6Ls back until straightening. Last few turning in. Battled hard early straight to hold some chances. Couldn't sustain effort and weakened 200 M out.
10 4 FIGS (CE141) R Fradd B Began well from the outside barrier. Midfield or worse, 3 wide with no cover on back straight. Ran very wide on track when pressured before straightening. No response when asked. Kept on evenly to the line.
11 14 KINGSTON GLORY (CC310) S K Sit -- Broke with them. Soon midfield on rail. 4Ls off speed at 1200 M. Niggled along approaching turn at 800 M. Found little under riding on the bend. Lacked dash when needed. Faded final 250 M.
12 9 FREE WAY (CC279) C K Tong B/H Broke well. Kept 2 wide 3Ls back before 1200 M. Improved from a 4 wide spot with no cover rounding home. Unable to pick up after straightening and tired badly final 250 M.
13 10 SPEED WINNER (CB195) W M Lai B Slow to begin. No speed early, pushed hard to keep pace. 2Ls back 3 wide with no cover midway. Pressured but yielded ground before straightening. Very weak in straight.
14 12 PREMIER BURG (CC137) Y T Cheng B/TT Good early speed to set pace on rail. Edged by a neck at 800 M. Lost lead at 600 M and found nothing thereafter. Dropped out rapidly and finished far from field.
