G1 - 2000m – Turf
1 |
Do It Again |
Showed his liking for the course when finishing powerfully to win the G2 Daisy Guineas (1600m) last time. Will be better over this distance, is drawn No 1 and has Bernard Fayd’Herbe up. |
2 |
Roy Had Enough |
This Australian-bred colt is the joint highest rated runner in the field but has not got the form to match his rating. He looks well held by a number of runners and has it all to do from No 13 draw. |
3 |
Tap O’Noth |
Top horse over 1600m and proved that with an emphatic win in the G1 Cape Guineas last December. Has failed over this distance before and on breeding is unlikely to see out the trip. Does have a good draw, though. |
4 |
Surcharge |
Top-class colt who ran second in all three of the SA Triple Crown races. Was unlucky not to win the G1 SA Derby over 2450m last time but got too far back in a slow-run race. Will be a massive runner if he handles the track. |
5 |
White River |
Last start tried in blinkers for the first time in the G2 Daisy Guineas (1600m) and was well supported but could only run fourth. Could win if he rises to the occasion. |
6 |
Pack Leader |
Third in the G1 Cape Derby (2000m) and was strongly fancied to win a G2 next start but came down with a mysterious illness which disappeared in a day. Ran second in a 1800m listed race subsequently. Big runner in this event. |
7 |
Like A Panther |
Withdrawn |
8 |
Steel Rose |
This gelding finished fourth in the G1 Cape Derby (2000m) and that run accounts for most of his rating. Has not done particularly well since arriving in Durban and does not look to have much of a winning chance. |
9 |
Majestic Mambo |
Won his first three races in style and was favourite for both the G2 Gauteng Guineas (1600m) and the G1 SA Classic (1800m). Did not have the best of luck in these races but based on his running style is not sure to enjoy the turning Greyville course. |
10 |
Warrior’s Rest |
On form looks to have little chance of placing in this field but he is from the Sean Tarry stable and that does warrant some respect. Did run well as a two-year-old but has done little since. |
11 |
Alssakhra |
He has been consistent in lesser company and is not sure to stay 2000m in this class. He has a decent jockey in Brandon Lerena but will have it all to do from No 11 draw. At best can run into a minor place. |
12 |
Toltec |
A three-time winner who looks a somewhat unrealistic entry in a race of this nature. Has run well in much weaker fields and a wide No 12 draw does little to enhance his chances. |
13 |
Sunny Bill Du-Toy |
A very interesting runner who has won his last three races in impressive style. However, those victories were on the Polytrack and it is uncertain whether he will be able to produce the same form on turf. Big chance if he does. |
