Frankie Dettori's mount has won three of his five starts and his trainer argues that his two defeats came under difficult circumstances. A 1200m G1 winner at The Curragh, he was outpaced at a crucial time in a 1400m G1 here last October but only beaten by brilliant Too Darn Hot who misses this race.

2

Al Hilalee

Supplemented following a stylish gallop at Meydan recently, this big colt won both starts last season despite being slow from the gates each time. Latterly, he won a 1600m Listed event at Deauville in August - quickly recovering and tough at the finish to get the money.

3

Azano

Progressive last year, concluding with a second in a 1400m G3 at Newbury - strong form. Made a respectable return when third to Shine So Bright in a Listed event over 1400m here last month, outpaced when it mattered. Slow ground might help.

4

Dark Vision

Won his first three starts at two including when surviving interference to land a G2 over 1400m at Goodwood. Made his 2019 debut in a valuable all-weather event over this distance at Chelmsford last month, under pressure at half-way but responding - finishing a close third.

5

Emaraaty Ana

Highlight of his four-race career so far was when he showed impressive speed from the gate to gain an all-the-way victory in a G2 at York last August. Off the track for 217 days and has never raced beyond 1200m but his dam was a winner over 2400m.

6

Great Scot

Won three of his five starts at two - at up to Listed class - and proving himself over this distance and on fast and slow ground. His main problem is that he can race too freely in the early stages but his second in a G3 at Newbury last month represented an encouraging start to 2019.

7

Kick On

A maiden winner over 1600m here last September but could not handle the steep rise to G1 class at Doncaster when sixth behind Magna Grecia the following month. However his stylish return - leading throughout - in an 1800m Listed event here last month ensured him his place in this G1 Classic.

8

King Of Change

A close second in minor events on both two-year-old starts, raising his game on his 2019 debut when winning a novices' event at Nottingham, leading for some of the way and quickening nicely on the fast ground. Faces massively stronger opposition here.

9

Madhmoon

Won both his two-year-old starts, including a fast-ground 1600m G2 at Leopardstown last September, showing decisive acceleration each time. A bit heavy for his 2019 debut and also probably not helped by soft ground, he still ran a promising second in a Leopardstown Listed event last month.

10

Magna Grecia

This big, strong colt has shown great talent on all three starts, and has had this British Classic on his agenda since winning a Doncaster G1 over the straight 1600m on his final start - coming through from midfield and surviving an enquiry after intimidating the second. A major player.

11

Momkin

Ran well in all two-year-old starts including a defeat of a big field at Newbury. Pitched into a G3 over this course and distance for his 2019 debut, nearly landing a shock win, beaten a neck by Skardu - a good effort considering he raced freely and didn't have a perfect trip. Wants fast ground.

12

Name The Wind

Outgunned a John Gosden-trained hotpot when narrowly winning on his debut over 1400m at Kempton last September. Back on the all-weather at Kempton for his 2019 return, he again won narrowly, accelerating off a slow pace to win that 1600m Conditions' event.

13

Royal Marine

A battling G1 winner over 1600m at Longchamp on his final two-year-old start but a beaten favourite in both 2019 starts, first at Meydan and then when 2.75L fourth to Skardu in a G3 here last month, failing to quicken sufficiently. His trainer is hoping for slow ground.

14

Set Piece

Won his first two starts - both at this distance on all-weather surfaces. His trainer was undecided between handicaps or better races, deciding on a G3 over this course and distance last month, running a good third to Skardu, briefly leading after charging from the back.

15

Shine So Bright

From a stable loaded with three-year-old talent and he led from gate to wire to win a Listed handicap over 1400m here last month. His pedigree suggests he may also be effective over this longer trip but he might not have quite the class to win a G1 Classic.

16

Skardu

Surprised his trainer when winning a 1400m maiden on his only start last year. An athletic colt, he had clearly progressed over the winter - quickening to win a G3 at Newmarket last month - showing in the process that he handled this course and distance.

17

Sporting Chance

Kept busy and his two-year-old achievements include a 1200m G3 victory on slow ground at Maisons-Laffitte, leading most of the way. Won on his last start  - at Meydan in February - racing too freely but still too strong for his rivals in Listed company over this trip.

18

Ten Sovereigns

In the space of five weeks he won all his three starts in 2018, a maiden, a G3 and a G1. Yet to race beyond 1200m but his great trainer thinks that his style of racing - fast away, easily relaxing and finishing strongly - will give him a good chance of thriving over Newmarket's 1600m.

19

Urban Icon

Won both his starts at two, and, though they were only minor events over 1200m, he demolished his rivals each time. Has developed into a huge, imposing-looking colt and his rider made some very positive comments after he had finished third on his 2019 debut in a 1400m G3 at Newbury last month.
