Chantilly Racecourse – Track Analysis (Prix du Jockey Club):

Chantilly Racecourse is one of the major racing venue and training centre in Paris. Traditionally, the Prix du Jockey Club and the Prix de Diane have all been staged at Chantilly, and since 2005, the Prix du Jockey Club was abbreviated from a traditional 2400m to just 2100m.

Similar to ParisLongchamp, Chantilly is simply a spacious strip; and for the 2100m Prix du Jockey Club over this clockwise course, the field will jockey for positions through a 800m straight before hitting the first corner in the form of a brief, slightly ascending elbow; then, after another 200m straight, the field will face a tight, wicked far turn that has seen many a derby starter to lose precious ground by attempting a premature wide move. Finally, the field will race for all their worth in the 600m homestretch, and is definitely a genuine test of acceleration and stamina.

In the 2018 edition of the Prix du Jockey Club contested on soft ground, STUDY OF MAN, racing midfield through the early markers, gathered himself beautifully at the 400m marker, and held off all opposition to pounce home first, whereas PATASCOY and LOUIS D'OR, though stalking STUDY OF MAN all the way, could not catch the winner, and had to settle for second and third while rallying from the rail and out wide respectively.

With occasional showers teasing through the Paris area, sunshine will nevertheless return just in time on Sunday, according to the latest forecasts, thus this year’s running of the Prix du Jockey Club would still be contested on good to firm turf, and stalkers sitting just behind the pace or stalking mid-pack, while drawing low numbers, would probably be poised for a field day.
