Tokyo Racecourse – Track Analysis (Tenno Sho Autumn):

On top of its ample track width, and a long homestretch that almost reaches 525m, the Tokyo Racecourse also features its own version of sweeping turns. Deep closers with explosive late speed would find it as effective to pounce home from out wide. That being said, with an uphill drive from 400m to 300m out, all the way to the finish, front-runners at Tokyo have to open up against their competition at the top of the lane, or find it an insuperable task to wire the field. Overall, this is still a fair track with no particular penchant towards any running style, where closers only get a slight edge on a typical race strategically run in Japan.

In the 2019 running of the Tenno Sho Autumn over 2000m contested on firm turf, the mighty ALMOND EYE,  was racing mid-pack while saving ground early, before her sneaking through the field with a rail-skimming move, taking command by the 200m marker, and easily winning by daylight. DANON PREMIUM, Yuka Kawada up, prompted ALMOND EYE right on her vanguard most of the way, but was only second-best on the day, while Keita Tosaki put AEROLITHE on the lead, and tried to stay there from gate to finish, but faded down the stretch, and just held on for third.

Reviewing the recent race meeting at Tokyo on 25th October, when the track was listed as firm, horses that prompted the speed, or stalked just off the speed, and saved their best to finish strong, were enjoying a slight advantage. While sunny skies that will extend through this weekend in the Tokyo area, firm turf would be on deck for this year's running of the Tenno Sho Autumn and that is surely going to be good news yet again for runners that position well, preferably on the rail, in the early stages.
