Kranji Racecourse – Track Analysis (Singapore Gold Cup Day):

Though being a level and vast track, the Kranji Racecourse features two distinguished left-hand turns – the Short Course and the Long Course – curving back to the homestretch; for this up-coming Singapore Gold Cup Day, all races, likewise as in last year’s edition, will be staged on the Short Course.

For the featured 2000m Singapore Gold Cup and Kranji Stakes C, runners have to hustle for a nice spot with a mere 200m stretch run before reaching the clubhouse turn, and outside-drawn runners invariably have a much higher chance in getting parked wide. In the 2019 running of this prestigious prize, MR CLINT, though losing ground early, managed to whip around the field from the 800m marker on, took command at the top of the lane, and held off all opposition to reign supreme, while GOLD STRIKE and COUNTOFMONTECRISTO, also saving for a strong rally from way back and out wide, checked in late for second and third respectively.

To the rest of the day’s undercard, sprinters to contest the 1200m Class 4 Handicap and Novice will have a 400m run-in, but still adequate room to seek for cover, before hitting the same far turn. In comparison, two other divisions disputing 1400m Class 3 Handicap and 1600m Class 4 Handicap and Kranji Stakes B will have respectively 600m and 800m of the same section before the turn, and a bad stall is still manageable. All being said, runners sent to the front early are still enjoying a slight edge.

With incessant precipitation that looks to tease through Saturday, Kranji would probably be stocked with a wet, sticky track on deck. Should the weather improves just in time, forwardly-placed runners would still continue to own the competition, particularly for sprints; yet if it is still a deluge on race day to soften the strip further, deep closers may turn the table.
