Japan Cup S1 - 1, 29/11/2020, Sunday Post Time 14:40

1

Curren Bouquetd'or

Four consecutive runner-up finishes in four recent starts, including 0.75L to Suave Richard in this race last year.  Just nicked for the win when nose 2nd in the G2 Sankei Sho All Comers (2200m) last out.  Races handy.  Can handle softer ground but best on firm.

2

Almond Eye

The Japanese heroine in history and 2018 Fillies' Triple Crown winner will make her final career start. Winner of 10 of her 14 starts. Became the first Japanese racehorse to win eight G1s in the G1 Tenno Sho Autumn (2000m) last out.  Set a 2400m turf race world record in this two years ago.  Closer with strong finish.  Best on firm ground.

3

World Premiere

Highly talented 4yo colt who finished in the frame in all seven career runs. Claimed his first G1 title in last year's Kikuka Sho (3000m), before a fine 3rd in the G1 Arima Kinen (2500m) last December.  Not raced since, but the left-handed and wide track at Tokyo should suit.  Hold-up horse.  Tested on firm and good track.

4

Kiseki

Won four over 1800m to 3000m in 25 career runs.  Winless since the 2017 G1 Kikuka Sho (3000m), but with decent runner-up performances in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) this year and last year, also in this race in 2018.  Returned with a fine 2nd in G2 Kyoto Daishoten (2400m) in October before 5th in G1 Tenno Sho Autumn (2000m) latest.  Relishes softer ground and versatile.

5

Daring Tact

Undefeated in all five career starts over 1600m to 2400m. Became the first unbeaten Fillies' Triple Crown winner in JRA history in the G1 Shuka Sho (2000m) last month.  Hold-up runner.  No track worries.

6

Contrail

Well-deserved win in the G1 Kikuka Sho (3000m) last out to become third ever unbeaten Triple Crown winner, and with his sire Deep Impact, the first ever father and son to accomplish the feat in Japan.  Clocked fastest time for last 600m in five of seven runs.  Generally settles midfield or better.  Tested only on firm and good.  Only concern is how much he can recover after running the marathon race.

7

Mikki Swallow

Consistent galloper with five wins over 2000m to 2500m from 21 career runs.  Finished on the board in all four starts this term, including 3rd in the G1 Tenno Sho Spring (3200m) in May and 5th in G2 Sankei Sho All Comers (2200m) latest.  Races from deep.  Best on firm.

8

Way To Paris

French raider who won G2 Grand Prix de Chantilly (2500m) in May.  Ran 2nd to subsequent Arc winner Sottsass in the G1 Prix Ganay (2100m) in June, before producing a career best performance when winning the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (2400m).  Mediocre runs two recent starts including 9th in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) latest.  Hold-up horse.

9

Taurus Gemini

5 wins over 1600m to 2000m, all at far inferior level to this, from 22 runs. Busy campaign in 2020 with 11 starts to date.  Won the Open class Tomoe Sho (1800m), followed that win with 4th in the G3 Hakodate Kinen (2000m) in July, but finished below par in three recent runs.  Races on speed.  Most form on firm but can handle very soft going.

10

Perform A Promise

8yo whose best run so far a distant 3rd behind Fierement in the G1 Tenno Sho Spring (3200m) last year.  Scored his 3rd graded race win in the G3 Naruo Kinen (2000m) at Hanshin in June, his first start in 13 months.  Mediocre effort last time in the G2 Kyoto Daishoten (2400m).  Settles back but can race close to the pace.  No ground worries.

11

Crescendo Love

Seven-time winner over 2000m to 2600m from 23 starts. Twice a 2000m G3 winner at Fukushima.  Came off a handy 4th in the G2 Sankei Sho All Comers (2200m) latest.  Handles any ground.  Generally settles deep.

12

Makahiki

2016 G1 Tokyo Yushun (2400m) winner. Not won since the G2 Prix Niel (2400m) at Chantilly the same year.  Rounded off last term with 4th in this race.  Well beaten in the G1 Osaka Hai (2000m) in April in his only start this term.  Hold-up runner.  Handles all surface.

13

You Can Smile

6-time winner from 1800m to 3400m in 17 career outings.  Won G2 Hanshin Daishoten (3000m) in March before a fine 4th in the G1 Tenno Sho Spring (3200m) in May.  Returned from six-month break with a warm-up 4th in a 2500m G2 latest.  Closer with a strong kick.  Prefers firm track.

14

Yoshio

Six wins between 1200m and 1800m from 67 runs on dirt.  One win from 10 starts this term, a 1200m Open class race at Nakayama in January. Sole career run on turf an 8th in a 1200m maiden race in 2015. Usually races handy.

15

Glory Vase

Talented middle-distance runner who scored a long-awaited G1 triumph in last December's LONGINES Hong Kong Vase (2400m). A disappointing 17th first-up in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) in June.  Bounced back to win G2 Kyoto Daishoten over this distance last month.  First run at Tokyo.  Settles midfield for a late run.  Best on firm but has also won on good.
