Chantilly Racecourse – Track Analysis (Prix du Jockey Club):
Chantilly, yet another fabled racing venue and training centre in the Paris area, is traditionally home to both the Prix du Jockey Club and the Prix de Diane. Since 2005, the Prix du Jockey Club was cut back from 2400m to the Prix de Diane distance of just 2100m.
Similar to ParisLongchamp, Chantilly is a deceiving strip that sees virtually no end from rail to rail. For the 2100m Prix du Jockey Club field to navigate this clockwise course, sophomores will jockey for positions through an 800m straight before hitting the first right-hander in the form of a brief, slightly ascending elbow. Then, through another 200m straight, the field will face a tight, wicked far turn that has seen many starters lose precious ground in risking a prematurely wide move. Finally, the field will roll full-tilt in one gruelling dog-fight of a 600m stretch run, which is definitely a genuine test of both acceleration and stamina.
Last year’s Prix du Jockey Club contested on heavy turf, MISHRIFF, racing close up early, met traffic momentarily at the top of the home straight, but soon find the stands' side, and shook off THE SUMMIT, who led in the clear almost the whole way, inside the final 200m to score impressively, whereas 2020 Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner VICTOR LUDORUM, though gobbling up ground fast from out wide, made his move much too late, and could only settle for third.
Though Paris is enjoying some sunshine as of late, rain could be arriving on Sunday, and this year’s Prix du Jockey Club would be contested over an off-track; therefore, race-day track conditions will be a crucial factor on race selections.
