Prix Jacques le Marois S1 - 4, 15/08/2021, Sunday Post Time 21:50
Alpine Star |
Effective at 1,600m and 2,000m and has finished second in four most recent starts, each time by less than a length. |
Chindit |
Twice beaten by Poetic Flare at G1 level on good to firm ground this season. May find that opponent difficult to beat again but if the rain stays away, has place claims. |
Colosseo |
Second to St Mark’s Basilica at Longchamp in G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains a fine effort and not disgraced when 5th over 1,400m here latest. Place chances. |
Ecrivain |
Has been finding life hard against top opposition around 2,000m and enjoyed the drop to 1,600m when narrowly winning Chantilly G3 last time. May need more again to figure. |
Midtown |
Looked a leading contender for Classic honours before suffering a minor injury in the spring. Ran very well after eight months off to be third in G1 over 1,400m and would be no surprise to see him involved in the finish. |
Mother Earth |
Won 1000 Guineas in May and after narrow defeats in between, produced a tough display to win the G1 Prix Rothschild here 12 days ago. Has the ability to go close again. |
Order Of Australia |
Has not quite lived up to his win in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile last November. But a G2 win over 1,400m at the Curragh in July suggests the combination of good ground and a speed-favouring track should bring about improvement. |
Palace Pier |
Exemplary career record of eight wins from nine starts including this race last year and must have a leading chance. The only question mark is how he will match up on his first start against this year’s three-year-old generation. |
Poetic Flare |
The best three-year-old in Europe over a mile on the evidence of his win in the 2000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace. Seems to need fast ground to be at his best and should be a major factor. |
Victor Ludorum |
Won the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains over this straight 1,600m at Deauville last June. He found life harder after that and took a couple of starts after a long winter break to recover his form this year. Looked as good as ever when winning a Chantilly G3 last month. |
