The Met S1 - 9, 29/01/2022, Saturday Post Time 23:10
1 |
Do It Again |
Seven-year-old who has placed once in this race but has yet to win. Had a disappointing prep run when unplaced last time but at his best could be a threat. |
2 |
Cirillo |
Has yet to win beyond 1400m but has placed in a G1 over 2000m at Turffontein. Unplaced last year and is unlikely to do much better this time round. Top trainer, though. |
3 |
Rockin' Ringo |
Way out at the weights and a highly optimistic entry. Has not won beyond 1800m and would do well to finish in the top half of this field. |
4 |
Jet Dark |
Produced a devastating finish to win the 1600m G1 Queen's Plate for the second time. Distance a question but has won at Greyville over 1800m. Hard to beat if he sees out 2000m. |
5 |
Kommetdieding |
Last season's G1 Durban July winner over 2200m. Ran a cracker in the Queen's Plate, coming from a long way back to run second and will love this trip. Massive runner. |
6 |
Linebacker |
Blotted his copybook when unplaced in the Queen's Plate, the first time outside the top three. Reunited with Grant van Niekerk who has won three graded races on him. Big runner. |
7 |
Hoedspruit |
Victory the G2 Premier Trophy was the perfect prep run for the Met. A repeat performance will see him finish in the top four. |
8 |
Second Base |
On best form he would be a contender and seems to have hit form at the right time. Has to travel from Joburg and has not run at the track but has a place chance. |
9 |
Puerto Manzano |
This lightly raced gelding comes off a break making his Cape Town debut. In this company he will have to perform above his best to make the top four. |
10 |
Marina |
Top filly who is looking for this distance. She is not badly out at the weights and looks well above average. Will be running on strongly and could be the surprise package. |
11 |
Double Superlative |
The only three-year-old in the field and faces a mammoth task. Anton Marcus did steer him to victory in the G1 Cape Guineas. Fancied by stable so must have a chance. |
