Could never land a serious blow in this last year but in great form this season, including two G2 wins latterly when very strong at the finish – after looking briefly outpaced – over this trip at Hamburg.

Lady Ewelina

Supplemented, this inexpensive purchase has proved a bargain, winning a 1600m G3 at Cologne in May.  Withdrawn at the start of the German Oaks last weekend. Needs to prove stamina for this trip.

Le Destrier

In hot winning form in Poland where the racing is generally at a lower level. Won over 2600m at Sluzewiec in Warsaw most recently. Ratings suggest that he will probably struggle.

New London

Having convincingly won a G3 over this trip at Goodwood last year he was made favourite for a G1 Classic over further, running really well without being quite good enough. Will surely be sharper for a very satisfactory 2023 return at Newmarket.

Sammarco

A dual G1 winner last season including a gutsy success over this trip in the German Derby at Hamburg. Hasn’t so far clicked into top gear in G2 and G1 company this season.

Simca Mille

Came back from an abortive trip to Japan last year, returning to his excellent best in France in 2023 with G2 victories at Longchamp and Chantilly, latterly very impressive over this trip. Good chance especially on good or fast ground.

Sisfahan

A G2 winner in a tight finish on soft ground over this trip at San Siro in Milan last October. Rallied late on to grab second in a Hamburg G2 early last month, his best run this year.
