Expert Column for Gran Premio Latinoamericano (S3-1) (Diego Mitagstein)

S3-1     Gran Premio Latinoamericano

IRWIN, appears as the top candidate of the race. He did not have success in the G2 UAE Derby in Dubai last year, where he arrived far from his best form. It was difficult for him to find his best level again, but he finally achieved it after a break. He returned by winning the G2 9 De Julio over 1,600m in July, and a qualifier race for the Gran Premio Latinoamericano over 2,000m in August. Never far from the leaders, his pace is very difficult to arrest on the straight.

NATAN, one of the great candidates of the race. Was one of the best 3YO of his generation in Argentina, winning the G1 Jockey Club, the 2nd leg of the Argentinian Triple Crown last year. He won the G1 Estrellas Classic in June, which is the local version of the Breeders' Cup. He performs in a similar way over dirt or turf, and usually runs coming from behind, running hard in the straight, if it is open, much better. Carlos D Etchechoury, his trainer, is the current leader at San Isidro, and won the Gran Premio Latinoamericano in 2005, at San Isidro.

DOUTOR SURENO, among the foreign representatives, owned by Stud Haras Moema, is one of the most dangerous, mixing class with experience and an incredible present, a formula that usually gives great results. A notable runner over turf, he has had a phenomenal 2023, winning the G1 Sao Paulo and the G1 Matias Machline. Surely will come running not so far from the leaders, will look for a good position in the turn and run over on the straight, preferably on the outside part of the track. One of the candidates.

SAMAY, one of the 3 fillies and mares in the race, won in 10 of her 11 starts. A specialist in becoming protagonist during the final stretch, the daughter of POWER WORLD is one of the great rivals for NATAN and IRWIN, and it will not be a surprise if she finishes ahead of them.

Among the 3 Chilean representatives, COSTA DEL NORTE is the best. Another filly in the race, she brings an excellent record, even beating males in her country. Winner of the G2 Francisco Baeza Stakes and G3 Invierno Sergio Del Sante, has a support of top-level trainer and jockey Oscar Ulloa Perez and the necessary experience to fulfill an excellent role.

SELECTIONS: 10. IRWIN, 1. NATAN, 5. DOUTOR SURENO, 3. SAMAY & 8. COSTA DEL NORTE
