Otaki Racecourse - Track Analysis (Otaki‐Maori WFA Classic):

Otaki Racecourse is located towards the lower end of the north island of New Zealand, 70km north of the nation’s capital city Wellington. Otaki is a left-handed racecourse with a circumference of 1800m and a 400m long home straight.

The Otaki Maori WFA Classic has been run at group one level since 1992 and has been won by outstanding gallopers like DARCI BRAHMA, MUFHASA (KING MUFHASA in Australia), MELODY BELLE and AVANTAGE through the years.

The race starts from the 1600m chute at the top right corner of the track, giving the runners a lengthy 700m run before they turn along to the side of the track. From there, the field has a run of 500m before they then enter the home straight.

Last year’s Otaki Maori WFA Classic was engaged in a small field and the race was run at a slow pace. It was officially held on a good track, however, showery conditions affected the track on the day. As a result, the riders elected to come towards the middle and outer sections of the course in the home straight.  The classy mare LEVANTE, who settled off the pace and was too strong for her rivals over the concluding stages of the race, finally won the title. Runner up LA CRIQUE was given every chance in the lead but had to settle for second, while CHASE took up a handy position in the run and battled on for third, although he was in the inferior part of the going nearer the inside part of the track.

Rain is forecast on the day of the meeting, so there is a reasonable chance that the program will be run on a soft surface. Please be advised to pay attention on weather update.
