Tenno Sho Autumn S1 - 1, 27/10/2024, Sunday Post Time 14:40

1

Bellagio Opera

The 2022 Chiba Thoroughbred Sale graduate secured his first group one title in the Osaka Hai (2000m) in April. Has finished in the top three seven times in nine starts with five wins. Handles rain-affected track.

2

Matenro Sky

Won the first group race in the G2 Nakayama Kinen (1800m) in February but showed little in the G1 Dubai Turf in March. 2.8L eighth in the G2 Mainichi Okan (1800m) but capable of better.

3

Stella Veloce

Third in both the G1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) (2000m) and the G1 Japanese Derby (2400m) in 2021. Finished side by side and won a listed race (1800m) on his return from a break of around four months in March. Third in the G2 Sapporo Kinen (2000m) in August. No ground worries.

4

Tastiera

The G1 Japanese Derby (2400m) winner in 2023 has not tasted any triumph since that big day. Finished out of frame in recent three starts, but his sire Satono Crown is a late maturing type of horse and Tastiera should have more scope.

5

North Bridge

Rounded off the 2023 term with a distant tenth behind Equinox in the G1 Tenno Sho Autumn (2000m). But matured this season with fourth to Rebel’s Romance (who later won the G1 Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup at Sha Tin) at G3 in Qatar in February. Back in distance and finished well third in the G1 FWD QEII Cup (2000m) in April before winning the G2 Sapporo Kinen (2000m) as his first reappearance on the Japanese track this year.

6

Sol Oriens

Remained unbeaten in his first three career starts, including the victory at his third start in the G1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) (2000m), followed by second in the G1 Japanese Derby (2400m) and third in the G1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St. Leger) (3000m) in 2023. Showed progress when second in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) in June last time. No track issues. Hold-up runner.

7

Do Deuce

A three-time G1 winner in the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes (1600m) in 2021, the Japanese Derby (2400m) in 2022 and the Arima Kinen (2500m) in 2023. Two runs this term: fifth in the G1 Dubai Turf (1800m) before struggling to finish sixth over the yielding track in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) last time.

8

King’s Palace

The 2000m specialist with finishing in the top three in all eight starts over the distance. No track worries with good turn of speeds.

9

Ho O Biscuits

Has raced consistency this season, finishing in the top three in all five runs in 2024. Showed strong closing speed and won the G3 Hakodate Kinen (2000m) in July before a close second finish in the G2 Mainichi Okan (1800m) last time.

10

Danon Beluga

Third in this race of 2022 at three. Showed consistency between 1800m and 2400m. Missed on the board only once in 11 starts when finishing sixth in the G1 Japan Cup (2400m) in 2023. First run since third in the G1 Dubai Turf (1800m) in March. Tokyo should be his best course.

11

Justin Palace

Claimed his first G1 title in the G1 Tenno Sho Spring (3200m) in 2023. Finished well second in this race last year. Finished fourth in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2410m) as his seasonal bow in March before unsuited by the rain-affected track when finishing tenth in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) last time.

12

Liberty Island

Became the seventh JRA filly to sweep the Japanese Triple Tiara in 2023. Will be the first race up since March when finishing third in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2410m). Great turn of foot.

13

Schilthorn

A two-time winner yet to win a group race but ran 4L third in the G3 Epsom Cup (1800m) over this track in June. He likes Tokyo, and showed progress and finished fifth in the G2 Mainichi Okan (1800m) at Tokyo last time.

14

Lebensstil

The 4-year-old talented colt has five wins at 1800m and 2200m. Beat Sol Oriens in the G2 St. Lite Kinen (2200m) in 2023 before missing the top three spots for the first time (eighth) in the G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Vase (2400m) in December. Returned his form and took two straight wins at G3 and G2 in the last two starts.

15

Nishino Revenant

A four-time winner over 2400m and 2500m. Won a 3-win class last December but finished below par in the graded races. Settles back.
