Racing Incident Report

PRIDE AND FORTUNE and ALWAYS WIN were both slowly away. WINNING DELIGHTS jumped awkwardly, was then further inconvenienced when crowded for room between SUPERB CHARGER and TEKON PERFECT. In the early stages, INDUBITABLY BLISS proved very difficult to settle and threw its head about. ALWAYS WIN made the turn near the 800 Metres awkwardly, got its head up and momentarily shifted out behind TEMPTATION. The Stewards deferred the declaration of Weighed-In. They were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt on whether CLASSIC MASTER (J Egan) should be declared the winner of the race. They decided that there was justification to have the matter resolved formally and openly at an objection hearing [Rule 151(iv)]. F Coetzee, the rider of INDUBITABLY BLISS, second placegetter, also objected to CLASSIC MASTER being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount over about the last 300 Metres. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available films were of the opinion that by CLASSIC MASTER continually shifting out over about the last 200 Metres and carrying INDUBITABLY BLISS from the running to which it was rightfully entitled had caused interference to INDUBITABLY BLISS, the material extent of which exceeded the neck margin between the two horses at the finish of the race, therefore the Stewards sustained the objection and amended the placings to read: INDUBITABLY BLISS, 1st; CLASSIC MASTER, 2nd; ALWAYS WIN, 3rd and SECOND OPINION, 4th. Subsequently J Egan was told after taking into account all the circumstances today, no action would be taken against him, however, he was reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances the Stewards would expect that he stop riding and straighten. Near the 200 Metres, Apprentice S K Sit (SECOND OPINION) momentarily dropped his near side rein. Throughout the race, SUPERB CHARGER hung out.
