Racing Incident Report

THE PIONEER and ACROBATIC were slow to begin. MULTIWINNING proved difficult to settle in the early stages and after the 1400 Metres got its head up when close to the heels of ARMONDO. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, ALWAYS WIN got its head on the side and hung in. G Schofield (CELEBRATION) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position. He said CELEBRATION began well and he immediately obtained a forward position outside MASCOT TREASURE. He said after the 1400 Metres he steadied his mount to shift behind that horse to obtain cover, however, when he did so, ENTERTAINING, which had been racing to his outside, also shifted in and to avoid causing crowding to his inside, he allowed ENTERTAINING to shift in to be racing in front of him. He said ENTERTAINING appeared to be under pressure to hold its position from about the 800 Metres and consequently CELEBRATION raced further back than was intended. He said he again had to steady off the heels of ENTERTAINING prior to straightening when that horse commenced to give ground which allowed ACROBATIC to improve through on his inside and into clear running. He said he immediately endeavoured to follow ACROBATIC through and approaching the 300 Metres he shifted out in the hope of finding a run between ENTERTAINING and ACROBATIC, however, he was disappointed for this run when ACROBATIC shifted out after being bumped by HIGH SPIRITS which in turn had been bumped by ALWAYS WIN. He went on to say for some distance after this he was held up for running behind HIGH SPIRITS and to the outside of KINDRED SPIRITS, then only obtained clear running after the 200 Metres. The explanations submitted by G Schofield were accepted. ENTERTAINING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. ENTERTAINING was examined by the Veterinary Officer following the race. An endoscopic examination was conducted. This showed a significant amount of mucus in the trachea. Before ENTERTAINING can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. ALWAYS WIN, TOM'S FIRST and AMBITIOUS TYCOON were sent for sampling.
