Racing Incident Report

KOWLOON STAR was withdrawn prior to Race 1 on veterinary grounds (high temperature). DOLBRIDGE was slow to begin. SPINNING CITY began awkwardly. CONVERGENCE was slow to begin, then in the early stages proved very difficult to settle and after the 800 Metres was obliged to race wide and without cover. Making the Home Turn, STRATEGUS hung out. In the Straight, TAMAR hung in. Apprentice P H Lo (GRAND FIGHTER) said the horse began only fairly and then mustered speed when being ridden along, however, as he did not believe GRAND FIGHTER would be able to clear STRATEGUS and cross to the fence, he elected to take a sit off that horse. Mr P C Kan, trainer of GRAND FIGHTER, said he had instructed Apprentice Lo to lead, however, if another runner took the lead and the race was being run at a good pace, he should steady his mount and race to the outside of that horse. He said he was satisfied that Apprentice Lo had ridden GRANT FIGHTER in accordance with the instructions issued to him. SUPER SPRINT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SUPER SPRINT after the race did not show any significant findings. STRATEGUS and QUICK NEWS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 26 May 2003) :
After the race, SUPER SPRINT was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SUPER SPRINT was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P F Yiu yesterday morning and was noted to be stiff in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SPRINT will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
