Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, ZIETENGO BOY and CORAJOSO were examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. The horses were trotted up and after the necessary consultations with their riders were considered suitable to race. DANDY BUNNY began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of ATHLETIC GOLD which as a result shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of ZIETENGO BOY. On jumping, MADE TO FIGURE and PARADIS were crowded for room between LATTE and LUCKY KING which shifted out. Shortly after the start, ZIETENGO BOY was bumped by CORAJOSO. For some distance after the 600 Metres, MADE TO FIGURE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LUCKY KING and inside CORAJOSO. Near the 300 Metres, CORAJOSO was shifted to the outside of PARADIS to obtain clear running. S Dye (LATTE) said it was anticipated there would be a lack of pace in the race and LATTE would most probably be able to lead, however, he was not to make use of the horse to do so. He said it was always his intention and was agreed to by the trainer that he should race away from the rail and in the Straight shift towards the middle of the track as in their opinion this pattern of racing suited today's track. S Dye said CORAJOSO, which had drawn to his outside, began better than LATTE did, however, he then was able to go forward when ZIETENGO BOY, which had been hard ridden, crossed to the fence and led. He said at the same time HALO KING PRAWN went forward and in his opinion if he had continued forward on LATTE, HALO KING PRAWN would have shifted him across to race on the rail. He therefore allowed HALO KING PRAWN to cross and race on the rail in the lead near the 800 Metres and PORTER RICKS followed it across. S Dye said in the Straight LATTE failed to quicken, however, kept on one-paced as was expected and raced in a manner which indicated it would be better suited by a distance of further than today's 1400 Metres. LATTE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, LATTE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had a significant amount of mucus in the trachea. Before being permitted to race again, LATTE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DANDY BUNNY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DANDY BUNNY after the race did not show any significant findings. STRONGHEART, PORTER RICKS and HALO KING PRAWN were sent for sampling.
