Racing Incident Report

While parading behind the barrier, SIMPLE SIMPLE bumped the running rail, dislodged Y T Cheng, its rider, and galloped some distance riderless before being re-captured. Acting on veterinary advice that SIMPLE SIMPLE was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. The start of the race was delayed while adjustments were made to the running rail where SIMPLE SIMPLE had made contact with. A warning will be placed on SIMPLE SIMPLE and should the horse perform similarly again, action may be taken against it. WAIALAE WIN was slow to begin. FANTASTIC HORSE began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. NO COMPROMISE began awkwardly. At the 700 Metres, PRODIGY was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WAIALAE WIN. Throughout the race, TREASURE FIELD raced wide and without cover, gave ground at the 600 Metres and finished tailed off. The performance of TREASURE FIELD was considered unacceptable. Before racing again, TREASURE FIELD will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. When questioned, D Dunn (GOOD WIN) said it had been the intention to lead, however, the horse did not leave the barriers cleanly, lost ground and then shortly afterwards was momentarily crowded by INDY'S GEM which shifted in. He said after this he went forward to race outside FANTASTIC HORSE in the lead and whilst the pace of the race was not fast, he was of the opinion if he pressed forward and tried to lead that horse, FANTASTIC HORSE would have gone with him and held the rail. He said he rode GOOD WIN, which last season did not settle in its races, in a barrier trial on 29 August 2003 when the horse settled in behind the leaders and kept on well over the concluding stages, therefore today when the horse relaxed for him outside FANTASTIC HORSE, in the circumstances he considered it best to maintain that position rather than to make too much use of GOOD WIN to lead. He said he endeavoured to go forward making the Home Turn in the hope that he would have been able to cross FANTASTIC HORSE and lead into the Straight, however, GOOD WIN was not able to do so despite his riding. D Dunn was told his explanations would be noted. TREASURE FIELD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of TREASURE FIELD after the race revealed no significant findings. STEP FORWARD, FANTASTIC HORSE and MR BASKETBALL were sent for sampling.
