Racing Incident Report

O' SHINY, which was to be ridden at the back from its outside draw today, began awkwardly and shifted out. ORIENTAL and MODERN PROSPECT were slow to begin. PROFIT DAY began awkwardly, shifted out and caused some inconvenience to LA MERVEILLE. Making the first turn, NEW CENTURY became unbalanced when crowded for room between JOHNNY JUMP UP and MODERN PROSPECT. Also making the first turn, LA MERVEILLE was steadied and shifted to the outside of SPIRITUAL KING which had its head on the side and shifted in. Near the 1400 Metres, ETERNAL FUN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PROFIT DAY. Near the 1000 Metres, ETERNAL FUN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPIRITUAL KING. Throughout the race, LA MERVEILLE raced wide and without cover. S Dye (ACE ACADEMY) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the horse raced in a rearward position as is usual and entering the Back Straight he endeavoured to hold a position on the inside of O' SHINY, however, despite his attempts was unable to do so and this was of concern to him as usually ACE ACADEMY travelled strongly at this stage of its race. He said after this ACE ACADEMY never travelled as it should and in the Straight did not close the race off as he would have expected. He said after the race he noted ACE ACADEMY had an abrasion to its right hind hock, the significance of which he could not be sure of. ACE ACADEMY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, ACE ACADEMY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings but noted an abrasion to its right hind hock. Before being permitted to race again, ACE ACADEMY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WAIALAE WIN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of WAIALAE WIN after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities. COMME D'HABITUDE and MODERN PROSPECT were sent for sampling.
