Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, LUCKSWELL bounded in the air. SERIOUS PLAY was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between OLYMPIC GOLD and MIGHTY HUGO which shifted out. Near the 1600 Metres, SERIOUS PLAY got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of PACIFIC ALLIANCE. At the 1500 Metres, NASA PEARL was steadied away from the heels of MIGHTY HUGO which shifted in when just clear and then steadied. After the 1000 Metres, DAVE'S BEST, which was endeavouring to obtain a position one off the fence, was brushed by XLERATE and shifted back in to be racing on the rail. Making the Home Turn, DAVE'S BEST hung in away from XLERATE, then in the Straight hung out. For some distance approaching and passing the 400 Metres, PRIZE WINNER was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind GREENMORE which was giving ground. After the 300 Metres, OLYMPIC GOLD was steadied when crowded for room between PACIFIC ALLIANCE which shifted out and SERIOUS PLAY which was carried in slightly by SPRINTER. Shortly after this, SERIOUS PLAY was steadied away from the heels of SPRINTER which continued to shift in. At the 200 Metres, GOOD FIT was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of XLERATE which shifted out away from PERFETTO which itself was shifting out. After the 200 Metres, the whip of G Schofield (PRIZE WINNER) was knocked from his hand by the whip of J Quinn (GOOD FIT). About 50 Metres from the line, the whips of W M Lai (NASA PEARL) and S Dye (MIGHTY HUGO) became entangled. Throughout the race, TOP PRIZE hung out. XLERATE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, XLERATE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. PERFETTO and NASA PEARL were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted LUCKSWELL had blood present at its right nostril. An endoscopic examination showed no blood in the horse's trachea, therefore it was not deemed to be an official bleeder.
