Racing Incident Report
A BETTER DRAGON began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped AGE OF RED WINE, causing S K Sit, its rider, to become unbalanced. In this incident, the saddle of S K Sit shifted to the left hand side. He managed to rectify this near the winning post on the first occasion. D'OR WIN began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, MONZA KING was bumped by ELITE WIN which shifted ground while hanging. For some distance near the 800 Metres, SPEEDING MOLLY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ELITE WIN. Approaching the 600 Metres, AGE OF RED WINE, which had been ridden in a forward position, commenced to give ground quickly. This caused interference to a number of runners, the worst sufferers being SPEEDING MOLLY which lost ground and was shifted to the inside of D'OR WIN which steadied and shifted to the outside of the heels of AGE OF RED WINE, and RENA'S WUNDERBAR which was also shifted out near the 400 Metres to avoid the heels of AGE OF RED WINE. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt on whether FANTASTIC STAR should be declared the winner of the race. They decided there was justification to have the matter resolved formally and openly at a protest/objection hearing [Rule 123]. J Spencer, the rider of PRINCE GOLF, second placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against FANTASTIC STAR (W C Marwing) being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount in the Straight. The Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that by shifting in near the 200 Metres and causing crowding on its inside to PRINCE GOLF which as a result was steadied and shifted out, FANTASTIC STAR had caused interference to PRINCE GOLF. The Stewards formed the opinion that PRINCE GOLF would have finished ahead of FANTASTIC STAR had the interference which clearly took place not occurred. In sustaining the objection, the Stewards placed FANTASTIC STAR immediately behind PRINCE GOLF [Rule 101(2)]. Accordingly the amended placings became No. 7 PRINCE GOLF, 1st, No. 6 FANTASTIC STAR, 2nd, No. 9 EVEREST, 3rd and No. 8 SPEEDING MOLLY, 4th. When PRINCE GOLF was crowded for room near the 200 Metres, EVEREST was bumped on the hindquarters. At a subsequent inquiry, W C Marwing was severely reprimanded and advised he should make a greater effort to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. The performance of AGE OF RED WINE, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, AGE OF RED WINE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. AGE OF RED WINE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, AGE OF RED WINE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. PRINCE GOLF and FANTASTIC STAR were sent for sampling.
