Racing Incident Report

WISHMASTER began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. SPARKY began awkwardly and got its head up. COOL SWING was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, WISHMASTER and BRAVE KNIGHT raced tight inside the heels of GRAND FIGHTER. In the middle stages, SPARKY and COOL SWING hung out. For some distance after straightening, JOYFUL MASTER was held up and unable to improve between SPEEDY EXPRESS and STRONGHEART. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, BRAVE KNIGHT and WISHMASTER had difficulty obtaining clear running. Y T Cheng (BRAVE KNIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of STRONGHEART, causing that horse to be carried in and in turn caused crowding to SPEEDY EXPRESS and JOYFUL MASTER, both of which lost their rightful running and were checked. Y T Cheng was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 15 April 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Saturday 27 March 2004. S Dye (ASSET PLAY) said he intended to lead on the horse tonight after it had trialed well on the surface when being ridden in a forward position. He did point out ASSET PLAY had previously raced on the All Weather surface once and on that occasion blundered badly at the start, was then ridden along into a forward position and compounded badly. He said tonight ASSET PLAY lost its footing on jumping, then became unbalanced when picking itself up and consequently lost ground. He said by the time ASSET PLAY had regained its balance, runners from its outside had commenced to shift across, he therefore allowed the horse to settle and it immediately resented the kickback from runners in front. He said he therefore shifted ASSET PLAY wider on the track and rode it along in an endeavour to get it to stride out. SPEEDY EXPRESS and ASSET PLAY were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, SPEEDY EXPRESS and ASSET PLAY were both examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. SPARKY and AMAZING were sent for sampling.
