Racing Incident Report
Prior to the running of Race 4, acting on veterinary advice that TSUNAMI had a swollen left fore fetlock and was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. Before being allowed to race again, TSUNAMI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MASTER ABLE began awkwardly, then bumped with GLOBE MARK which was carried out by ISLAND SPIRIT. As a consequence, MASTER ABLE and GLOBE MARK lost ground. In the early stages, UPPA HAND proved difficult to settle and near the 1300 Metres shifted in when barely clear of HIGHLAND DAWN which as a result was inconvenienced. Also in the early stages, on a number of occasions GLOBE MARK, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up. Near the 50 Metres, UPPA HAND was momentarily steadied away from the heels of CHARIOT OF WEI HAI which shifted out. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of G Mossé did not affect the finishing position of HIGHLAND DAWN, they nevertheless reminded him of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the winning post wherever possible. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by R Fradd, the rider of ISLAND SPIRIT, which finished 2nd, against CHARIOT OF WEI HAI (D Dunn) being declared the winner for alleged interference inside the final 50 Metres. The Stewards considered whilst CHARIOT OF WEI HAI shifted out just prior to the winning post, thereby causing minor inconvenience to ISLAND SPIRIT, they did not consider, bearing in mind the neck margin between the two horses at the finish, that ISLAND SPIRIT would have finished in front of CHARIOT OF WEI HAI had the inconvenience not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. HIGHLAND DAWN, CHARIOT OF WEI HAI and ISLAND SPIRIT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted HIGHLAND DAWN had lost its left front plate and that ISLAND SPIRIT had lost its left hind plate.
