Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, BRILLIANT FLASH became fractious. The horse was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said BRILLIANT FLASH had sustained wounds to its right hock and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of BRILLIANT FLASH. Before being allowed to race again, BRILLIANT FLASH will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. BEST LUCK began awkwardly, became unbalanced and knuckled. DAVE'S BEST began awkwardly. On jumping SANBENITO was checked when crowded for room between KROVANH which was carried out by EVER SUCCESS and AMAZING VICTORY which was carried in by TRIUMPHANT UNICORN which on jumping shifted ground abruptly. In the early stages, BEST LUCK proved difficult to settle. Passing the 1200 Metres, HAPPY CRUSADER, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of GROOM RAIDER. Making the turn near the 800 Metres, HAPPY CRUSADER hung out. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, AMAZING VICTORY got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of TRIUMPHANT UNICORN. O Doleuze (TRIUMPHANT UNICORN) said he had been instructed to go forward on the horse but not to lead. He said when he had ridden the horse at its most recent start and led, the trainer after the race told him in his opinion the horse was better suited not being ridden in the lead. He said today from the outside barrier he went forward in the early stages, he endeavoured to obtain a position with cover behind EVER SUCCESS, however, he was unable to do so as he had KROVANH racing to his inside and he was not clear of that horse to shift in. He said as a consequence TRIUMPHANT UNICORN raced without cover, proved very difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. He said in his opinion to have allowed TRIUMPHANT UNICORN to stride forward to clear EVER SUCCESS and shift across to race outside the lead would have been contrary to the trainer's instruction. Mr C S Shum, trainer of TRIUMPHANT UNICORN, confirmed the riding instructions given to O Doleuze and said he was disappointed with the manner in which the horse raced when leading from a wide barrier at its last start. He said in the circumstances he was satisfied with the riding of O Doleuze because in his opinion it was not possible for TRIUMPHANT UNICORN to obtain cover after beginning from the outside barrier. DAVE'S BEST and SANBENITO were sent for sampling.
