Racing Incident Report

CHOSEN ONE was withdrawn on 28.6.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (coughing, blood and mucus in windpipe) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter RED FORTUNE (Apprentice K W Tsui). Before being allowed to race again, CHOSEN ONE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPREME STAR began awkwardly and was then bumped by CHAMPION WINNER which shifted in. TOP STITCH was a little slow to begin and was then crowded for room between STAR PRODIGY and LUCKY TRIO, both of which shifted ground. Shortly after the start, SUPER FIGHTER got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, LUCKY TRIO was steadied away from the heels of DANEMAN HILL. At the 800 Metres, STAR PRODIGY was bumped by SMARTY which got its head on the side and shifted in. After the 400 Metres, WISE LOVER became unbalanced and lost its position when crowded for room inside SMARTY which got its head on the side and shifted in. No action was taken. Throughout the race, BUDDIES SPIRIT raced wide and without cover. B Prebble (TOP STITCH), which was having its first race start, said the horse was crowded on jumping, he then rode along and commenced to shift across to race outside DANEMAN HILL in the lead, however, he was unable to do so as he was not clear of LUCKY TRIO and as such remained racing three wide into the first turn. He said making the first turn TOP STITCH got its head on the side, hung out and commenced to lose ground. He said he then balanced TOP STITCH in the early part of the Back Straight, however, after the 800 Metres the horse appeared to shorten in its action and commenced to give further ground. He said after this TOP STITCH continued to feel short in its action and finished tailed out. TOP STITCH was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of TOP STITCH after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TOP STITCH was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, TOP STITCH will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DANEMAN HILL and SUPER FIGHTER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 30 June 2005)
TOP STITCH, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. TOP STITCH was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have shin soreness of both forelegs. As previously advised, TOP STITCH will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
