Racing Incident Report

WO AI NINN and WONDERFUL GAINS were slow to begin. LUFENG FORTUNE and HO WONGCHOY bumped at the start, resulting in HO WONGCHOY shifting out and making contact with SPLENDID CHAMPION. Passing the 1200 Metres, SOLAR WONDER commenced to prove difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of NATIONAL TREASURE. SOLAR WONDER continued to over-race and passing the 1000 Metres was obliged to shift out away from the heels of NATIONAL TREASURE, resulting in LUFENG FORTUNE being taken wider. After this, LUFENG FORTUNE travelled wide and without cover. Rounding the Home Turn, ANIMATION hung out and was checked away from the heels of SABINA. NATIONAL TREASURE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. When questioned, Apprentice M L Yeung advised that, due to a wide draw, he had been instructed to take SABINA across behind runners in the early stages and obtain a position with cover. He said it was anticipated that this would be behind midfield. He said although SABINA began well, having in mind his instructions, he steadied SABINA in the early stages in an attempt to obtain cover behind LUFENG FORTUNE. He said he was able to obtain cover behind that horse at the 1000 Metres. He stated that although he had been instructed to shift SABINA to the outside in the Straight if possible, he elected to follow WO AI NINN as that horse appeared to him to be travelling very well. Trainer A Lee confirmed the instructions given to Apprentice Yeung and stated that at its most recent start on the All Weather Track when drawn barrier 2, SABINA had been ridden in a forward position and had disappointed him by its failure to finish off the race as he expected. He said as SABINA had drawn barrier 12 today and with the rail being in the A position, he felt that it was in the horse’s best interests not to be ridden in a forward position in the hope that it would then be able to finish off the race. NATIONAL TREASURE, QUANTUM EXPRESS and WO AI NINN were sent for sampling.
