Racing Incident Report

On jumping, TRIUMPHANT DELIGHT shifted out and bumped BIEN BIEN HEART. MEDIT KING bounded in the air at the start, causing D Dunn, its rider, to become unbalanced. In the early stages, CENDAMY proved difficult to settle. At the 300 Metres, UNIVERSAL STAR was steadied and shifted to the inside of CENDAMY to continue going forward. At the 100 Metres, CHAMPION BOY was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of COSMO STAR which commenced to give ground. Over the concluding stages, MEDIT KING got its head on the side and hung in. R Fradd (MIRACLES) said with a large weight the horse was being asked to carry today, he was instructed to lead if nothing else wanted to, however, if the early section was run at a quick pace, he should follow the lead. He said after being boxed, MIRACLES became fractious and reared, then the gates opened before the horse was properly balanced, resulting in it being slow to begin. He said with the horse's large weight, he did not think it was in the best interest for it to be ridden along hard to make up the lost ground and he therefore elected to take up a position behind EAST OCEAN DRAGON in the run albeit four wide. He said on straightening, he shifted MIRACLES to the outside to give it an uninterrupted run and the horse responded for a short distance, however, over the final 200 Metres was one paced. He said he had been riding MIRACLES in its work leading up to today's race and while this work was satisfactory, in his opinion it was nothing special. The explanations submitted by R Fradd were accepted. MIRACLES was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of MIRACLES did not reveal any significant findings. F Coetzee (EAST OCEAN DRAGON) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position. He said after beginning awkwardly and bumping with UNIVERSAL STAR, EAST OCEAN DRAGON then took time to muster speed, as a consequence runners to his inside shifted across and took up the favourable inside positions, obliging him to race four wide without cover. He said in his opinion after beginning in the manner in which it did, EAST OCEAN DRAGON would not have been able to muster sufficient speed to clear runners to the inside and therefore he had little alternative to race other than where he did. He said near the 1000 Metres he had hoped CENDAMY, which was racing to his inside, would shift to a position two wide and he would be able to follow that horse across, however, this did not eventuate. He said as a result of being obliged to race wide without cover, EAST OCEAN DRAGON did not finish the race off at all in the Home Straight. The explanations submitted by F Coetzee were accepted. EAST OCEAN DRAGON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. Following the race, EAST OCEAN DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. QUICK NEWS and MEDIT KING were sent for sampling.
