Racing Incident Report

TANAHMERAH and ROMANTIC SYMPHONY were slow to begin. MIRACLES began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. SUNRISE RAINBOW was slow to begin, then shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY DICE which shifted out slightly after being bumped by VICTORY MARBLE which began awkwardly. From a wide barrier, SIXTY SECONDS travelled wide and without cover throughout. After the 600 Metres, HANDBAG PREMIER was momentarily crowded for room inside VICTORY MARBLE which got its head on the side and shifted in. Also after the 600 Metres, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT lay in and brushed the running rail. Near the 400 Metres, TANAHMERAH got its head on the side, shifted out and was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of PROGRESSING TIMES. Making the Home Turn, HANDBAG PREMIER brushed the running rail when tight inside VICTORY MARBLE which continued to lay in. As a result on straightening, Mr Rodd, the rider of HANDBAG PREMIER, became unbalanced. M Rodd (HANDBAG PREMIER), 5th placegetter, and R Fradd (TANAHMERAH), 6th placegetter, were reminded of their obligations to ride their mounts out right to the winning post where circumstances permit. E Saint-Martin (SUNRISE RAINBOW) said he had discussed the race with the trainer of the horse, Mr C H Yip, this morning. It was felt the race would be run at a good speed and therefore from a wide gate the intention was to ride SUNRISE RAINBOW somewhere about midfield. He said SUNRISE RAINBOW did not begin well, he therefore decided to immediately shift across behind runners in the hope that the field would spread out. He said he felt had he ridden along to go forward in the early stages, SUNRISE RAINBOW would have been left racing wide. He said as a consequence of steadying his mount he got back to race slightly worse than intended, however, he was satisfied with the position he obtained following the favourite, PROGRESSING TIMES. He said when the race was run at a slow tempo, this disadvantaged SUNRISE RAINBOW. He added in the Straight SUNRISE RAINBOW in his opinion finished the race off fairly. MIRACLES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MIRACLES after the race did not show any significant findings. EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT and PROGRESSING TIMES were sent for sampling.
